The heroes of the DC Universe are in dire straits. Waller is stronger than ever and has unleashed a portion of the souped-up Amazos to steal the power of each of the metahumans. But Waller's devious plans also include John Kent, who tells his father the last two words Superman wants to hear.

In Absolute Power #2 By Mark Waid, Dan Mora, Alejandro Sánchez and Ariana Maher, Waller's plot succeeds. Most of the world's metahumans have been depowered and imprisoned on the island nation of Gamorrah. However, there are still quite a few metahumans left, so Waller prepares his team for a new round of attack led by his latest asset, the brainwashed and cybernetically enhanced John Kent. Meanwhile, in the Fortress of Solitude, Superman panics when he discovers that his son is in the clutches of Amanda Waller.

After some infighting, Nightwing gathers the remaining heroes and begins planning a counterattack against Waller. Unfortunately, before they can evacuate, the Castle is attacked by Queen Brainiac and Jon, and he reveals his new, wrapped form to his former allies. Superman is horrified by what happened to his son and tries to reach him. unfortunately Superman's son is far away and he helps Queen Brainiac disarm and capture the heroes.


Thankfully, Flash finds some kryptonite that still manages to hurt Jon. The young man falls to the ground and Superman takes care of his offspring. Jon seems to have given up on Waller's control and tells his father there is a way to end this. But As soon as Clark gets close enough John whispers “Join us” and takes Superman by the hand, spreading techno-organic corruption suffering Jon. Thankfully, the Flash once again comes to Superman's aid with kryptonite and drags John from the bike right through Blue Beetle's Bug, causing a huge explosion.

How Amanda Waller Turned Superman's Son Against Him

After visiting Earth-3 and seeing the damage that metahumans can do to Earth, Waller decides to save the world by ridding it of its metahuman population. With the support of the Council of Light, Waller began a shadowy, months-long campaign to gain more power than ever before. It took time, but Waller's subtle manipulations during “Animal World” paid off when he was appointed head of the Bureau of Sovereignty. From there it was only a matter of time until it was collected Assets needed to defeat the metahumans of the DC Universe.

After collecting Brainiac Queen and Failsafe, Waller used his technology to upgrade the six Amazons and designated them as Task Force VII. With everything in place, Waller finally acted on his final plan. He had the Brainiac Queen create dozens of AI videos showing the heroes attacking innocent civilians as a ploy to publicize them. The heroes fell for it, and once they came out in great numbers, Waller sent Task Force VII to meet his objectives.

Superman was one of the first meta-humans to lose his powers, and he was shot right after. Superboy and Jon were nearby and tried to save him, but their powers were stolen as well. Jon tried to help his ailing father, but he was dragged away by the Last Son, Amazo, who stole the Super Family's abilities. Superman's son later woke up in the lab, with no memory of who he wasAs Brainiac Queen begins to transform him into a cybernetic monstrosity.

It's heartbreaking to see John like this. Just a few years ago, he was the wide-eyed Super Son, delighting fans everywhere with his charming adventures with Robin. Now he has lost himself and become a weapon against the entire hero community. It's even worse for Superman, who loves John more than anything but is completely powerless to undo what Waller and the Brainiac Queen did to him. But Despite Superman's son's wish for the other side, all is not lost.

Superman may not have powers, but that won't stop him from saving flesh and blood.

There are still glimmers of the old John inside his ugly new form. After the attack on the Fortress of Solitude, John seriously calls out to his father and is horrified by what he has done. Unfortunately, the Brainiac Queen is once again in Jon's hands, so he's not out of the woods just yet. But despite turning Queen John against Superman and the metahumans, young Superman cannot be completely corrupted, meaning his father still has a chance to save him.


Even if Brainiac Queen keeps Jon under his spell a little longer, Superman doesn't give up on anyone. Not civilians, not his allies, not his enemies. So Superman is damn sure not going to give up on John no matter what he does or what is done to him. He may be armed, though Superman, the kind and brave hero he grew up with, is still out there, and he needs his father more than ever. Superman may not have powers, but that won't stop him from saving flesh and blood.

Waller has made plans for multiple outcomes, so there's no doubt he's still doing his best to fight the rebellious metahumans. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Superman can save his son from becoming Waller's weapon forever, but that window is shrinking by the minute. Superman and the rest of Earth's heroes have a lot on their plates right now, but it's unlikely that Jon will be able to take down the Brainiac Queen on his own. But one thing is for sure, Superman's He will not leave his son without a fight.
