A development that directly reflects the movie 28 Days Later40 monkeys escaped from a research facility in Yemassee, South Carolina.
The Yemassee Police Department made a strange announcement in a statement Wednesday. Earlier in the day, 40 monkeys escaped from the Alpha Genesis research facility. It is unclear how they managed to escape. The police department is currently investigating the mass escape using thermal imaging to locate the primates. They work with Alpha Genesis to bring the animals home safely. The statement stated that “traps were set around the area” to trap the crafty escapees.
“Residents are strongly advised to keep doors and windows secure to prevent these animals from entering homes,” officials said. “If you see any of the stray animals, please call 911 immediately and avoid approaching them.”
Alpha Genesis is a laboratory that breeds primates worldwide and provides “nonhuman primate products and bioresearch services.” Much of the company's clinical research has focused on treating progressive brain disorders. Although the monkeys that escaped from the facility have not been identified, Alpha Genesis specializes in working with cynomolgus, rhesus, and capuchin monkeys.
This isn't the first time monkeys have escaped from the Alpha Genesis facility. Postal and Courier In 2016, 19 primates reportedly escaped from the laboratory but were recaptured a few hours later.
