Summary

  • Diana and Damian's contrasting personalities make for a fun and interesting superhero team dynamic.
  • Wonder Woman's influence on Damian is significant as he begins to truly embrace her vernacular.
  • It would be interesting to see DC continue to develop Diana and Damian's friendship as Boy Wonder grows.

WARNING: Contains potential spoilers for Wonder Woman #12!Wonder Woman and Robin Damian Wayne are two of my favorite characters in the DC Universe, so I can see them coming together Absolute Power it's been a dream come true – something I hope will never end. Although only one issue of their team was released in Tom King and Tony S. Daniel's Wonder Woman run, the promise of more excited me beyond words.

Authentically mimicking Wonder Woman's speech, Robin is incredibly charming, reminiscent of a duckling mimicking its mother.

Wonder Woman #12 closes Absolute PowerA crossover crisis event in which Amanda Waller hunts down and imprisons the heroes using power-stealing Amazo robots. This issue focuses on Damian Wayne and Diana Prince coming together as they work to uncover the location of Waller's secret prison. By the end of the issue, I was convinced that the Amazon Princess and the Boy Wonder were the greatest superhero friendship ever, and I'm eager to see more. Here are the top five reasons I love this dynamic and the potential I see in it.

5 Diana Prince and Damian Wayne are one of DC's most unlikely duos (and I'm having a lot of fun)

Robin and Wonder Woman are two sides of the same coin, creating a great dynamic

Wonder Woman #12 Diana treats Damian like a misbehaving puppy

When we first heard that Diana and Damian were united through suggestions Wonder Woman #12, I was over the moon. I never expected DC to give us a one-on-one team-up between Robin and Wonder Woman. Sure, they both have something to do with Batman, but at this point, pretty much every DCU hero has. Diana and Damian also have a connection through Wonder Woman's daughter Trinity, but that's more of a future connection, so it doesn't actually affect the current storyline. Diana and Damian had no reason to cross paths other than Tom King wanting her, and boy am I glad she did.

Diana and Damian's pairing isn't just interesting because it's unexplored territory; because they have so much fun together. Both are warriors in their own right, but approach heroism from opposite ends of the spectrum. While Diana loves champions and tries to avoid conflict whenever possible, Damian is quick to exploit fear and is often the first to resort to violence. It's been a lot of fun watching these contrasting personalities work together. One of my favorite moments that perfectly captures their dynamic is when Diana takes in Damian as a misbehaving puppy. shortly before brutally beating Captain Boomerang.

4 Wonder Woman is already influencing Robin (and it's for the best)

I'm sure Tom King has plans to show Diana and Damian learning from and influencing each other in future issues.

Wonder Woman #12 Diana and Robin and Captain Boomerang-1

One of the best parts of Odd Teams is seeing how the characters interact with each other and how their behavior changes depending on who they're working with. Only one issue of Diana and Damian though Absolute Power team-up has been released so far, it is clear that they are already influencing each other. Wonder Woman's influence on Damian is perhaps the most noticeable the youngest Robin began to master her vernacular. Throughout this issue, Diana curses in her own unique way, using mythological references and alliteration. At the end of the example, Damian picked up this habit and said: “The Cursed Veils of Dionysus.”

Authentically mimicking Wonder Woman's speech, Robin is incredibly charming, reminiscent of a duckling mimicking its mother. However, it seems that Damian can also influence Diana. The main purpose of the Wonder Woman character is to seek peace over violence. Again, The Boy Wonder's more aggressive tendencies may affect the Amazon Princess. Despite refusing to harm Captain Boomerang several times, Diana breaks him after repeatedly taunting him. Some fans have noted that this is out of character for Wonder Woman, but it could also be seen as Robin's influence on her.

3 Sorry, Talia al Ghul, but Wonder Woman is the mother Damian Wayne needs

Diana Shows Damian The Love And Comfort He Always Deserves

Wonder Woman #12 Damian Wayne Robin

Wonder Woman #12 Damian Wayne is making waves on Tumblr and other social media platforms thanks to an iconic moment that melted the hearts of his fans. After several failed attempts to discover the location of Waller's secret prison from Captain Boomerang, Damian becomes increasingly frustrated and prepared to use force. When Wonder Woman stops him, explaining that she doesn't want Batman to torture him, Damian collapses, pointing out that he's not his father. Diana's attempt to comfort him leads him to say that he doesn't understand, prompting him to reply: “No? Remember, young man… I am also a child of a god.

Despite Diana's statement that Batman is a god, she knows he is not, but she uses the comment to show that she understands the struggle of living up to a parent with a god-like heritage. In this emotional scene, Wonder Woman holds a crying Robin, providing the motherly love and comfort that DC has long denied her. While many fans, myself included, are hoping to see Talia al-Ghul as Good Mother in the comics, it's even more powerful and satisfying to see Wonder Woman offer Damian the kind of motherly care he's never had.

2 Robin and Wonder Woman are the cross-generational, cross-team duo I didn't know I needed.

DC May Be Stumbling On Their Coolest Idea In Years (And I'm Not Sure They Realize It)

Wonder Woman #12 Captain Boomerang Wonder Woman Robin

For a while, I struggled to pinpoint exactly what made the Wonder Woman and Robin team-up feel so refreshing and different. But finally I realized: Diana and Damian represent a unique cross-generational and cross-team pairing. Typically, DC features cross-generational team-ups, such as either Batman working with one of his Robins, or heroes from the same generation coming together like the Titans. So it's especially remarkable to see a main Justice League hero like Wonder Woman team up with another hero's sidekick and son like Robin.

Diana and Damian's team-up feels uniquely refreshing because they come from completely different superhero families and lineages—a dynamic that DC can't quite appreciate. This intergenerational and interfamilial pairing offers an interesting twist that could be applied to other DC heroes. For example, Seeing Batman team up with one of the young Flashes like Bart Allen could lead to some incredibly chaotic and fun scenarios. The potential for Justice League heroes to team up with young heroes outside of their own families is vast, offering many new, unexplored dynamics that could revitalize the DC Universe.

1 I'm currently obsessed with the idea of Damian Wayne being Batman fighting alongside Wonder Woman.

Forget Wonder Woman's Daughter! Damian and Jon may join Diana when their father retires (or dies).

Wonder Woman #13 Robin Damian Wayne-1

Tom King's companion comic Trinity It envisions a future in which Wonder Woman's daughter Lizzie takes center stage alongside Jon and Damian as young adults. This storyline points to a new generation of the Justice League Trinity. However, after witnessing the engaging interaction between Diana and Damian Wonder Woman #12, I'm even more motivated now The prospect of seeing a mature Damian and John step into their father roles in the Trinity alongside Diana. Considering Wonder Woman is immortal, she will likely still be active after Clark and Bruce are gone.

The idea of Batman and Superman's sons joining Wonder Woman in this new era is quite appealing. This would make for a powerful full-circle moment where Diana not only continues to protect and guide her best friends' sons, but also becomes their teammate. This script delivers a deeply emotional narrative that reflects Wonder Woman's continued connection to Clark and Bruce's legacies. Although Lizzie's character is interesting, she sees the development of the relationship between them Wonder Woman and Robin Damian assumes that as he matures and his father's mantle becomes more attractive and meaningful.
