Fort Zancudo, the military base outside of Los Santos, is one of the best-known locations on the map in GTA 5, and for good reason. Not only is it a place to get into some unique five-star trouble with the law, but it is also the only spot on the map where you can acquire some powerful vehicles and fight challenging enemies.

While generally closed off and difficult to get into, the military base can be breached outside of missions and is filled with so much possible fun. With so many reasons to go to the military base and so many more things to do, here are some recommendations for some fun things to do at Fort Zancudo that you might not have thought about.
6 Start A Dogfight
It is common for players to visit the military base in order to steal a fighter jet, since it is the only place to obtain it. If you have attempted this in the past, you know that if you don’t stay low to the ground while taking off, a homing rocket will target you to shoot you out of the sky.
What you might now know is that this is not an automated system but actually an enemy fighter jet that spawns in to shoot you down. If you can evade its initial rocket, you can have a fun dogfight in the sky with it. For added difficulty, try shooting it down without using homing rockets.
5 Gain Access To A Minigun Early
With the Minigun being arguably one of the most powerful weapons in the game, it would be a significant boon to be able to acquire the weapon earlier in the game. While getting carbine rifles from fallen soldiers is already a good find if you haven’t unlocked them yet, what a lot of players don’t know is that there is a minigun sitting in a secret room in the base.
If you make your way to the base of the air traffic control tower in Fort Zancudo, you will find a pair of bright green doors that you will be able to walk through. From there, climbing the stairs to the upper levels will bring you to a room with a minigun sitting in the middle of it. Just be careful, as soldiers tend to be lying in wait for you in the tower’s rooms.
4 Take Home A Military Jeep
Believe it or not, you can actually store the military jeeps from the military base in your garage. While some of these jeeps will normally patrol around the outside of the base, the real challenge comes from stealing one from inside the base and escaping your wanted level with it.

While you can’t change the camouflage paintwork of the jeep, you can still apply many of the normal upgrades to the vehicle. Overall, the military jeep makes for a fun trophy from your adventures at Los Santos’ local military base.
3 Attempt To Steal A Titan
While it may sound simple enough, stealing the Titan is considered by many to be one of the more challenging things to do at Fort Zancudo, with others not even realizing that it is possible. When visiting the military base, you might have noticed the large military plane on the runway preparing to take off.
Like many other planes, you can hijack the plane and fly it off for yourself if you can stop it. However, that’s where the difficulty begins: once you steal it, you still need to escape with it. Meanwhile, you will need to be lucky enough to not get shot up too much by the surrounding soldiers, smashed into by military vehicles, blown up by a tank, or shot out of the sky by a responding fighter jet. 2 Give The Soldiers A Shower
It may sound silly, but that’s because it is. A fun fact about Fort Zancudo is that it has its own fire department with fire trucks standing by to respond to any fires or other emergencies on the base. Now it’s your turn to pretend to be a firefighter!
By stealing one of the fire trucks, you have a new weapon at your disposal: the fire hose. It can be quite entertaining watching the soldiers attacking you tumble over as you hose them down. While your intentions might obviously be just to give the soldiers a well-deserved shower, hosing the soldiers down too much will eventually kill them.
1 Steal A Tank With A Cargobob
While it might be fun to steal a tank and shoot down the soldiers pursuing you at the military base, it disappointingly cannot escape the confines of the base’s fence. The solution? The Cargobob.
The cargobob allows you to tow any vehicle, such as a tank, and lift it into the sky. You can sometimes find a cargobob at the military base, either landing or taking off, and hijack it to steal the tank. Just be careful; flying too high with the cargobob will trigger a response from a fighter jet that will lock onto you.
