The Neverending Story is soon returning to the big screen with a new film franchise based on the original film and book series. Based on Michael Ende's 1979 book, the 1984 live-action film adaptation tells the story of Bastian Bach, who disappears from his difficult life into the pages of a magical book. It was praised for both the magical story itself and the special effects, which were state-of-the-art at the time. The film quickly cemented itself as a staple of Millennial childhoods and remains a favorite to this day.

The Neverending Story followed by many serials – The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter (1990) and The Neverending Story III: Escape from Fantasy (1994), also an animated series. Now the franchise is about to be revived. This is not the first time that the remake of the film has been discussed. In 2009, a remake was reported to be in development, but by 2011, it was announced that rights issues had prevented the project from happening. Thankfully, those issues have now been resolved and a remake is officially on the way.

As the project continues to develop behind the scenes, it sees an original star discussing the latest news The Neverending Story to do again. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the first film, Child Empress star Tami Stronach has spoken out about the remake of the classic film.. Disagreeing with those who thought the film should not be remade, Stronach said, “The whole point of it is to inspire creativity and make sure to keep the child and dreamer alive in every person.”

The Neverending Story Remake Confirmed

Manufacturers And Manufacturing Company Announced

The Neverending Story A remake was announced in March 2024 with news that project will be a reboot of the original as a multi-film franchise. The remake will be co-produced by See-Saw Films and Michael Ende Productions, with producers Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Roman Hocke and Ralph Gassmann overseeing the project. Gassman and Canning discuss the reasons for the remake, including the timelessness of the original story, and how “every generation deserves its own journey into Fantasy.”

The story is both timely and timeless, and has the potential to be told in a truly fresh way. Part of the beauty of the book is that you can return to it at different ages in your life and find different levels of meaning. So how wonderful that we have the opportunity to create a new perspective that will have new layers and meanings. We simply believe that every generation deserves its own trip to Fantasy.

Gassmann:
In recent years, we have been completely overwhelmed by the interest of the television and film industry. But about four or five years ago, we felt it was right to return to Fantasy with a new, fresh focus. So we looked at hundreds and hundreds of surveys and just thought, let's see if we can find a potential partner among them that is so attractive that they make us want to jump in the boat with them and go on this crazy adventure. But we knew we had to do it right and find the right partner, and luckily See-Saw was among them.

Bastian Bach's Story Will Remain The Same

These are the only details of the adaptation so far this new version will be a 'fresh perspective' on the originalmost likely the main beats of the story will remain the same. The Neverending Story The book sees Bastian escape into a fantasy world where he must help save the Fantasy World from a creeping evil called the Nothing. The emperor is sick and the young warrior Atreyu must go on a quest to heal him. His belief in the power of imagination will truly save Fantasia and may even bring Falkor to the real world.

While many elements of this story are likely to change – some should remain the same. Falkor, the mystical Dragon of Fortune, is an iconic part of this world and should reappear in the remake. Likewise, it would be hard to imagine The Neverending Story Without the heartache of the Swamp of Sorrow and the loss that Atreyu suffered there.
