In Absolute Power #2 By Mark Waid, Dan Mora, Alejandro Sánchez and Ariana Maher, Waller wins the DCU's war against the metahumans. As the depowered humans are brought to Waller's prison on the island of Gamorrah, Waller gives his next order to his team and Tells the Dreamer that he will carry a special asset. At the same time, every available hero gathered in the Fortress of Solitude to form a counterattack. Nightwing takes command and begins issuing orders to his allies. Unfortunately, before the heroes can collapse, the Castle is attacked by the Brainiac Queen and a brainwashed John Kent.

…The Dreamer uses his powers to send Superman through the portal while he stays behind to control the Queen.

All hell breaks loose in the Castle as John's cybernetic augmentations turn him into Waller's weapon of war. The Brainiac Queen also uses her powers to thwart the heroes' plans, destroying their technology and equipment. In the midst of the chaos, Dreamer arrives, bringing the Global Guardian, one of the Task Force VII agents, to take over the powers of the remaining heroes. Nia freaks out and tells Waller she's leaving, but Waller orders Dreamer to get busy or his family will face the consequences.

With no other options, Superman chooses to self-destruct the Fortress and remove everyone he can from the temporary portal. But Brainiac Queen attacks Clark and prepares to kill him. However, Dreamer uses her powers to send Superman through the portal while staying behind to control the Queen. Enraged by what Waller did to Jon, Dreamer uses his power to trap the Queen in an explosion. Nia thinks about her family one last time the explosion shatters the Castle, leaving no trace of the Dreamer.

How Waller blackmailed Dreamer into working for him

Dreamer first caught Waller's attention during Animal World when he helped protect John and Metropolis from several animal-human hybrids. Intrigued by the idea of having a powerful precog under her command, Waller approaches Nia, threatening to reveal her hometown of Parthas, a secret community of alien refugees, to the world. The dreamer agreed and helped Waller catch a rogue precursor. Although Nia was successful, it was only the first of many missions she would undertake Waller begins to build a new Suicide Squad around Dreamer.

Needing to house metahuman prisoners on the island nation of Gamorrah, Waller assembled his new crew and sent them to overthrow its leadership. Dreamer reluctantly helped until he had a vision of what Waller was planning. Nia escaped and Waller made good on his threat by doxxing Parthas and its denizens. The small community was attacked, forcing Dreamer to return and protect his people. Unfortunately, Waller hoped so and have the Suicide Squad retrieve Dreamer and return him to Gamorra.

On his way to Gamora, Dreamer convinced his old teammate Bizarro to free him. Although it cost Bizarro his life, Dreamer was free to pay Waller for what he had done. But when Nia finally confronts Amanda, the precog sees a vision that reveals a terrifying truth: Waller has linked her heartbeat to the bombs in Nia's father and sister's heads. If Waller dies or if Dreamer does anything to displease him, Waller can kill them in an instant. With no other option, Dreamer continued to act as Waller's asset.

The Dreamer has proven to be a Hero… But what's next?

Suicide Squad Dream Team Dreamer with Deadeye and Black Alice DC

Dreamer made a very difficult decision. She would never want to work for someone as bad as Waller, but at every turn Amanda was threatening something incredibly important to Nia. First came his community, then his family. Although his girlfriend Jay Nakamura did not understand (rightfully so, as Waller killed his mother), fans saw how much Waller threatened the young woman. Most likely, everyone will make the same choices if, like Dreamer, their family's lives were in danger.

…Dreamer could easily have done this to fake his death and get off Waller's radar.

But despite the clear and present danger to himself and his family, Dreamer still chose to do the right thing in the end. Did Nia know if she was strong enough to take on the Brainiac Queen or would an explosion kill her? Probably not. But Dreamer couldn't bear to share in the terrible horror that Waller brought to the world. A lot of blood was spilled and The dreamer was willing to sacrifice anything if it meant putting an end to this madness.

But one has to ask if Dreamer is really dead or not. There was no body, and as any comic book fan will say, “No body, no death.” Nia has transport powers, which Waller doesn't seem to have prevented, so Dreamer could easily fake her death and get off Waller's radar. Plus, the seemingly dead Dreamer encourages Waller to kill Nia's family, so it keeps them safe for the moment. But dead or not, Nia risked it all and proved it Waller did not crush Dreamer's heroic spirit.

Dreamer leads the New Suicide Squad

When faced with such a challenge, not many people would take this opportunity and risk everything to do the right thing. But Dreamer has always been a strong hero, even when Waller did everything to break him. The DC Universe is far from good right now, but with Dreamer under Amanda Waller's control, there's a very real chance that things could turn around and the heroes could eventually win. The dreamer went through hell, though Arrowverse the hero will be the one almost no one saw coming.
