Aggro Crab has shared an early playable prototype of last year's underwater soulslike hit online, Another crab'S Treasure. Released in 2023, Aggro Crab's shellfish-filled creation quickly found an audience, moving 100,000 units within the first week.
Now, in a rare peek behind the scenes, developer Aggro Crab has shared a playable 2021 prototype of the 2023 hit. This first downloadable build, about five minutes long, was intended to win over investors and now offers developers and players a welcome taste of the first creation of an independent hit. Includes an alternate original design for the game's protagonist, Kril, as well as some gameplay mechanics not seen in the final game.
A new wave of attention for Another crab's treasure
While developers can release prototypes in an attempt to obtain funding, or too often, sharing a build only long after a game's cancellation, releasing a prototype after a successful launch is a refreshingly transparent move in an often secretive industry.
“The prototype can be completed in about 3-5 minutes, so you'd better see some crazy fast racing,” the game reads Itch.io description.”What you see is what you get! Haha got it. It's like the whole ocean thing again. Ok but really have fun diving in. Remember this was a prototype to show investors, not made for the general public. No shot goes back if it doesn't shoot well!”
