Passengers on a recent Qantas Airways flight were in for quite a shock when an R-rated movie was broadcast on every screen on board, leaving some parents with some explaining to do to their children. Now the Australian airline is owning up to its mistake.
It all happened on a flight from Sydney to Tokyo on October 5. Associated PressSince individual movie selections could not be made at each seat due to technical problems, the flight crew selected a movie to be played on all screens “at the request of a few passengers”. Qantas itself has not confirmed which movie this is. Washington Post And Deadline reported that father2023 drama starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn.
Although it is a dialogue-heavy film, there are some parts that are not exactly aimed at children, to say the least. Rated R is for adult language, sexual material and brief graphic nudity. In the film, this means “photos of naked female breasts and prosthetic penises” largely displayed on a phone screen, according to IMDb.
“The film was clearly not suitable to be played throughout the entire flight and we sincerely apologize to customers for this experience,” a Qantas spokesperson said in a statement. he said. “All screens were replaced with a family-friendly movie for the remainder of the flight, which is our standard practice on rare occasions when individual movie selection is not possible.”
In response to the uproar, Qantas' Down Under sibling Air New Zealand mocked the incident on social media. “Plot: We let you choose your movies,” the company wrote to X.
