Basketball superstar Angel Reese revealed during an Instagram Live on Tuesday that her $74,000 annual salary from the WNBA does not cover her rent, or any bills for that matter. “I'm living beyond my means,” he joked.
“The WNBA doesn't pay my bills at all,” Reese said during the live broadcast. “I don't think this even paid one of my bills. Literally.” He then addressed a person on camera, telling them he “needed to do the math real quick” on multiplying his monthly rent by the yearly total.
“I don't even know my salary,” Reese continued. “Seventy-four [thousand]While he was doing his math, the off-camera person apparently showed the athlete his bank records, prompting him to yell, “Hey! I'm living beyond my means. Sike!”
“I don't even know what salary I get from the WNBA,” Reese repeated. “There's nothing worth that WNBA check.”
“It's so sad,” Reese's friend said, “because it shows you that you're lucky to have other sources of income, but other people actually have to get by on that. It's really sad.”
“I couldn't eat,” Reese said. “I couldn't live.”
“Especially in a city like Chicago or New York,” his friend continued. “And if you live in Chicago or New York, you make the same amount of money as if you lived in Minnesota.”
“Crazy. Crazy,” the LSU icon mused. “We'll still make more money,” he assured fans.
Reese signed a four-year, $324,383 contract with the Chicago Sky through 2027, which sees him making a little more each season. He earned $73,439 in his first year and will receive $74,909 for the 2025 season. He will earn $82,399 in 2026 and $93,636 in 2027.
The WNBA's salaries are notoriously low, as the league has struggled for years to become profitable. However, the recent explosion in viewership and attendance, coupled with the entry of Reese and fellow Hooper Caitlin Clark into the league, has promised to help the company's financial situation worsen.
But the athlete actually has many other sources of income besides her WNBA salary. Per Sport KeedaAs of September, Reese was earning $1.8 million from 20 separate NIL endorsement deals, making him one of the industry's highest earners. Reese also has the distinction of signing Reebok's first NIL deal. The brand recently launched the Reebok by Angel clothing and footwear line.
