Athlete Shares Chilling Video of Half Marathon Finale, Day Before His Death

The 35-year-old athlete, who died shortly after falling ill and crossing the finish line of the Disneyland Half Marathon, shared a chilling final video on TikTok the day before her death.

Bobby “Caleb” Graves had a “really good time” in Sunday’s event, which took place in record-breaking triple-digit temperatures in Anaheim, Calif. “The race started at 5 a.m.,” said Matt Sutter, the city’s police sergeant People“I don’t know what starting wave he was in, but he crossed the finish line at approximately 7 a.m.,” he explained, meaning Graves completed the race in less than two hours.

“As soon as he crossed the finish line, he started clutching his chest,” Sutter continued. “One of the employees noticed and ran over to him and caught him before he collapsed.” The event noted that paramedics “realized he was in cardiac arrest, performed life-saving measures and immediately took him to the hospital.” They worked on him for an hour but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Graves shared a chilling final video on Sept. 7 to the @calebgtravels TikTok account, where he complained about extreme temperatures and admitted to being “a little anxious” about the half marathon.

“I went outside around 2 o’clock this afternoon — which was probably the hottest time of the day — and it was 90-something,” Graves said. He added that he has “some sensitivity” to the heat but “don’t know if it’s temporary or long-term.”

Graves said that after taking her dog for a 20-minute walk, she “blacked out” and lost control of her body. “It was hot but I felt fine,” she reported, “and then, 10 minutes after I got back, I blacked out. I just fell asleep — I had no control over my body.

“It was heat exhaustion,” Graves continued. “It’s only happened to me once before. I don’t know what happened, but I really hope to get through the race tomorrow morning.”

Graves' autopsy is being conducted by the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office, but the report could take weeks or even months to complete.

There were “no other reports of medical distress” at the event, which was scheduled for early Sunday to avoid “the full heat of the day,” according to Sutter. “I've spoken to medical experts who say a heart event or two is possible during a big race like this. But fatalities are rare,” he reported.
