Baby Hippo Moo Deng 'Predicts' 2024 Presidential Election

We are still hours, if not days, until the world learns the outcome of the 2024 United States presidential election. But across Thailand, viral internet sensation Moo Deng was given the opportunity to predict the race. Because who needs a survey when you've got a baby hippo?

On Monday, Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand's Chonburi province, where Moo Deng lives, posted a video of two watermelon “cakes” being gifted to TikTok-based celebrities. Each cake had the names of the respective candidates representing former president Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris written on it.

The four-minute long clip showed Moo Deng and another hippo lounging in a pond, while two cakes were placed on a nearby cement slab. After slowly emerging from the water, Moo Deng moved towards the cake on the left, while the larger hippo headed towards the cake on the right.

The video's caption read, “Who will be the President of the United States? We will find out in 48 hours.” But in what would have been a terrifying situation for at least half the country, according to pre-election poll data, Moo Deng actually chose the cake with Trump's name on it.

But most of the comments on the video seemed less concerned about the election and more focused on the hippo cub. “Why is everything he does so cute!?” One commenter gushed, while another said: “Moo Deng to the Presidency.”

Moo Deng became a viral sensation in September 2024 when images of him taking a bath began circulating online. With visitors limited to five-minute visits only, it didn't take long for people to flock to the zoo to catch a glimpse of the hippo.

In any case, Moo Deng, who is only four months old and resides in Thailand, clearly does not have the right to vote, so the results of the election will ultimately be left to American citizens.
