Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game full of gorgeous characters and gorgeous pieces of clothing and armour to deck them out in. It does, however, include some pieces that are considerably less gorgeous but have better stats than whatever we were using before. Aesthetic or function? It’s a decision no one wants to make.
So, it’s no surprise that fans are calling on Larian to remove the decision entirely. Players want Baldur’s Gate 3 to go the way of other RPGs and get a transmog system, allowing everyone to go with whatever armour looks the best, while still getting the stat benefits of the strongest option you have on you. In other words, let us put everyone in the Wavemother’s Robe, please.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Needs To Let Us Wear Armour As Camp Clothes
Baldur’s Gate 3 offers some highly fashionable armour that offers little use in battle, but won’t let you wear it for fun either
“This game desperately needs transmog,” says Groundhog_Gary in the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit. “Seriously why is this such an oversight in games? This feature should be in every RPG idk why developers don’t get it.”
This isn’t the only idea fans have for changes to how gear works in Baldur’s Gate 3. One player suggests being able to choose the top and bottom halves of outfits separately, and another wants us to be able to use anything as camp gear.
If you don’t like how your character looks in general, you can change their appearance in the mirror in camp. This is limited to custom characters and Hirelings.
In fact, that latter point would solve a lot of problems. You can switch over to camp gear at any point in the game, and if you’re not actually at camp, you’ll keep the stats of whatever armour you have equipped. It’s not a perfect transmog system, since you’re limited to wearing whatever clothing is listed as camp gear, not armour, but it still lets you avoid wearing an ugly piece of garb that has great stats. Plus, in Act 3, you can find some banging camp gear, so it might be worth it at that point.
It doesn’t seem that any of the devs have commented on transmog being added in a future update, so it’s not clear if it will ever become an option. However, if you’re on PC, the modding scene can help you out. As for those of us on console, we’ll just have to work with camp gear and clothing dyes, and hope that’s enough to make our characters look a bit more put together.
