A Return to Form for Jefferson Pierce
Black Lightning first appeared in DC Comics Black Lightning #1, the first series from 1977 by Tony Isabella. The series ran for 11 issues before being canceled as part of the 1978 DC Implosion initiative. Issue 12 wasn't released until well after the original series – well into the 1980s The most beautiful comics in the world #260. Jefferson did not receive another self-titled series until 1995 Black Lightning The series, also penned by Isabella, until she dropped out of the project due to internal conflicts at DC. The series was canceled in 1996.
The original Black Lightning stories were followed by a mini-series in 2009 Black Lightning: Year One, then 2016 Black Lightning: Cold Dead Hands limited series. It's clear that Black Lightning's starring roles are few and far between, and his recent appearances at DC are equally rare, despite his frequent presence in the team books. However, his reappearance in DC storylines — followed by a new Justice League position — bodes well for things to come. His new solo streak and new League status could be just what it takes Black Lightning It returns to a bigger presence in the DC world.
