Bodycam Footage Reveals Officer's Graphic Reaction During Tyreek Hill Incident

Dramatic bodycam footage of Tyreek Hill being taken into custody by Miami police officers reveals the striking moment when a cop realized who he was dealing with the Dolphins' wide receiver.

Hill was escorted from his car by law enforcement just outside Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday afternoon while arriving to attend his team's home opener. Officers handcuffed him for “immediately failing to cooperate,” according to the Miami-Dade Police Department. Hill's arrest was only temporary, and after being cited for reckless driving and a seatbelt violation, he returned an 80-yard touchdown pass during the Dolphins' 20-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On Monday, the police department released nearly two hours of body camera footage detailing the entire incident. In one shocking clip, one officer tells another of Hill's identity

“Why is he acting like this?” asks the first officer.

“You know who he is, don't you?” replies the second. “He's one of Dolphin's star players,” he continues.

“Really? F–k,” the first officer says.

On Monday, Hill said: NBC News “It went from 0 to 60, man. From the moment those guys came up behind me and banged on my window, it went from 0 to 60 instantly.”

Hill's teammate, defensive back Calais Campbell, was also handcuffed and arrested after arriving at the scene and attempting to de-escalate the situation. “I told him I'd stand wherever you want,” Campbell told officers when asked to leave. CNN“You tell me how much to pull back, and I'll pull back, but I'm not leaving the stage,” he explained. “I have a friend here. I'm here to support him. I'm not leaving.”

Eventually, Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith also arrived on the scene, but it does not appear that he was handcuffed or otherwise detained.

The incident prompted swift condemnation from the Miami-Dade Police Department, which vowed to “conduct a thorough, objective investigation into this matter and continue to keep the public informed about the outcome of this process.” In a statement, the Dolphins commended the department for releasing the footage so quickly but called the officer's behavior “overly aggressive and violent.”

The Dolphins' statement continued: “It is both infuriating and heartbreaking to watch the people we trust to protect our community use such unnecessary force and hostility against these players, but it is also a reminder that not all situations like this end peacefully, and we are grateful that this one did.”
