Bronx subway rider beaten and stabbed on Christmas Eve

A 44-year-old man was beaten and stabbed in a Bronx subway station by four strangers on Christmas Eve, police say.

Police said the victim was on the mezzanine of the Mosholu Parkway Station in Norwood around 5:30 p.m. when he got into an argument with the suspects.

The Daily News reported the confrontation began when the victim accidentally bumped into a woman’s backpack. An NYPD spokesperson could not confirm that’s what sparked the fight.

The four suspects – described as three men and a woman in their early 20s – then beat and stabbed the victim, stole his cellphone and fled.

The victim was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. His name was not released.

Police were still searching for the suspects on Christmas Day.

This year, Mayor Eric and Gov. Kathy Hochul ordered a surge of police officers into the subway system. Major crimes like robbery, rape and murder are down by roughly 2% compared to last year, while tickets and arrests for fare evasion are way up.
