Compass Box Releases Delicious Limited Edition Whiskey Ahead of Its 25th Anniversary

Next year marks the 25th anniversary of Compass Box, the American-born, London-based whiskey producer known for its intriguing and often captivating blends. From the iconic and smoky Peat Monster to the arguably smokier Celestial and the hedonistic Art & Decadence, the brand has built its reputation on pushing boundaries and capturing flavor profiles. Now, Compass Box looks back as it launches its latest product, The Travelling Circus.

Inspired by The Circus, a limited-edition Compass Box bottle released in 2016, The Travelling Circus leans on the flavor that helped the brand leap into bars around the world: peat. This smoky, marine essence comes from a number of distilleries, including Talisker on the west coast of Scotland—one of a handful of distilleries on the gorgeous Isle of Skye—and Caol Ila on Islay.

Compass Box whisky production director James Saxon hoped to create a whisky that would “capture the grandeur and vivacity of a circus night.” Many of its ingredients were matured in sherry casks, adding to the depth of the overall flavor.

Travelling Circus exudes a deep fruitiness with aromatic dry smoke and a silky touch on the palate. The smokiness gathers additional layers thanks to Speyside sherry notes, then finishes with a grain whisky character due to additions from the now-defunct Port Dundas Distillery.

“We are incredibly pleased with the arrival of The Travelling Circus,” says Saxon. “The balance between sherry cask maturation and complex smokiness is a hallmark of Compass Box and fans of our whiskies will enjoy exploring this latest composition. For those new to Compass Box, this is a globe-trotting introduction to the places we can explore when we creatively combine high-quality Scotch whiskies.”

The Traveling Circus’ only challenge will be actually getting your hands on a bottle, as this limited-edition whiskey will only be available at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City and Los Angeles International Airport through the end of August. Bottled at 49% ABV, the whiskey comes with a suggested retail price of $188 per 700ml bottle.
