The Hollywood plot brings with it a new cast and guest stars, including Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis and Eva Longoria, as fictional versions of Charles, Oliver and Mabel drawn to play the film versions. These characters allow the series to have fun with its leads, exploring their quirks and insecurities, but Slash movie's Ethan Anderton notes that they “it is used sparingly without overstaying its welcome“. Instead, it's Lynch's Sazz that really shines in season 4, as her character sticks around as a ghost for Charles to interact with.
