It's an understandable reaction from Scott Summers, as the code name in question only brings back bad memories for him, but it's something he'll have to deal with.

In a preview for what's to come X-Men (2024) #2 Jed MacKay, Ryan Stegman, Marte Gracia and Clayton Cowles of VC, Cyclops tells Quentin Quire that he hates Quentin's code name, Kid Omega. Of course, that's all the more reason for Quentin to keep using it.

Cyclops hating the code name makes perfect sense. Quentin acquired the codename Kid Omega in his first appearance in 2002 The new X-Men #134. The Quentin of The new X-Men also adopted the omega symbol above the letter X for the Omega Gang, which killed human fans and caused a riot at Xavier's house, leaving several dead and Quentin incorporeal (he recovered).

Cyclops Has Good Reason To Hate Kid Omega's Code Name

Baby Omega with the Omega Gang in the X-Men comics.

The fact that Quentin continues to use the code name Kid Omega for Cyclops is a reminder of the young mutant's violent past. Of course, this makes sense for Quentin as well, other than just annoying Cyclops. First, he prides himself on his status as an Omega Level mutant, a mutant with no measurable upper limit. It is also a political statement. The new X-Men came up with the idea that mutants would eventually overtake humanity and become the dominant species on Earth. Quentin adopted the omega, the last letter of the Greek alphabet, as his symbol because it also symbolized the end or end, thus symbolizing mutant dominance over humanity.

Quentin has been on a long, somewhat redemptive journey since his days as a violent radical, but his code name is a constant reminder of his past. He may not be actively murderous in the same mercifully immature way he is The new X-Menbut he is a smart ass who is willing to fight for mutant rights. In fact, many of the members of this new team are radicals, including Quentin, who uses him as a symbol for Magneto. The new X-Menand Quentin's former lover Idi, who has recently turned to more radical politics.

Cyclops and Quentin are not so different

Cyclops X-Men Revolutionary

In fact, Quentin's attitude actually aligns him with how Cyclops himself has been portrayed since the late 2000s. In particular, Scott had his “revolutionary” phase after 2012 Avengers vs X-Menhe became a pariah for killing Professor Xi when he was captured by the Phoenix. Even with Xavier's return and Scott's death and rebirth, Cyclops still maintains his independence. It's funny when it's new X-Menthis Cyclops and Kid Omega can't seem to get along, even though they hold up more mirrors to each other than they care to admit.

Cyclops

Cyclops, aka Scott Summers, is the leader of the core team of X-Men and one of the first characters to appear in the franchise. As a human/mutant hybrid, Cyclops has the power to fire massive energy blasts from his eyes, which are tuned using a specially designed visor. Despite his calm and composed demeanor, he tends to lose it when his teammate Wolverine is around him.
