Delta's Airline Seats Have a Major Upgrade

Delta Air Lines is rolling out some major upgrades to the flight experience that are expected to be welcome changes for customers.

Beginning this fall, Delta passengers on domestic and short-haul international flights on Boeing 757 aircraft will experience completely redesigned aircraft interiors, updated seating with never-before-seen levels of comfort, new lighting throughout the cabin and more. Wide-body Airbus A350 aircraft used for long-haul international routes will see the changes in early 2025.

“Delta took the time to develop every detail of our new interiors; the team was committed to creating an experience that mimics our customers' lifestyles and puts them at ease as soon as they board our aircraft,” said Mauricio, Delta's Vice President of Customer Experience Design. Parise said in a statement. “As we enter the next century in flight, this refreshed cabin interior combines utility with beauty to create an atmosphere that feels fresh, elevated and timeless, while reflecting our customers' evolving tastes and expectations.”

The new Main Cabin and Comfort+ seats are made from engineered leather and feature updated colors and accent striping. If you're traveling in a wide-body vehicle, your butt will thank you as all Main Cabin and Comfort+ seats will have memory foam pillows.

The lighting will also be noticeably different, as it is optimized to promote a calming in-car atmosphere from boarding to disembarkation. The new cabins will feature “ambient lighting designed to suit every phase of the flight,” allowing you to rest and relax wherever you land.

“Every flight is different, so we focused on creating warm, calming and atmospheric lighting options that create an environment where customers can rest and relax or stay productive as they choose,” Parise said. “We focused on the 'wind down moment' for boarding—warm, inviting lighting that makes the cabin feel spacious and open. At mealtimes, we make meals more natural by layering color tones that make you feel like you're at a candlelit dinner. As the lights dim for sleep, we borrow from the sunset and “We gently remove the blue light while bringing in warm amber tones reminiscent of a sunset glow.”

Following the initial rollout of wide-body aircraft in early 2025, Delta will expand the new cabin design to as many of its aircraft as possible over the next few years. The goal is to have all Delta aircraft interiors one day look the same, rather than offering this new and improved experience only to some lucky passengers.
