As someone who has weathered everything from flesh-baring roles to tabloid scandals, Moore knows the self-image issue inside and out. “I put a lot of pressure on myself,” he said. But when you look back, you think, ‘Was it really that big of a deal?’ Probably not, but at the time, I made it seem like everything.”
The problem affects both genders equally, but men may have a hard time talking about it or naming it because it’s often associated with women, Moore says. “The self-judgment, the pursuit of perfection, trying to rid ourselves of ‘flaws,’ as well as feelings of rejection and hopelessness — none of these are unique to women,” she says.
