The city of Los Angeles was literally blown away after the Dodgers beat the New York Yankees last week to capture the team's eighth World Series title in franchise history. In the ensuing mayhem, a subway bus was set on fire and exploded, and a viral video showed a fan blowing off part of his hand while lighting fireworks.
The video in question has since been viewed almost 150,000 times, and now this fan is speaking out in hopes of warning others. And all things considered, 25-year-old Kevin King is lucky to have two fingers on the only finger he lost in the incident.
Fox 11 Los Angeles He spoke with King and his family and said even his surgeons agreed it was a miracle the damage wasn't much, much worse.
“The surgeon saw the video,” said King's father, whose name is Kevin King. “They don't understand how he survived his injuries. He spared 90 percent of his face from the explosion.”
“He's basically missing his index finger,” King Sr. said, referring to his middle finger. “The part of flesh between the index finger and thumb. There were some problems between both ears.”
King has already had two surgeries to repair the damage and is about to undergo a third surgery. He will eventually need a prosthetic and will have difficulty hearing due to the explosion, according to a GoFundMe page created to raise money for medical expenses. King plans to raise awareness about the danger of fireworks so she hopes someone else won't have to go through the same ordeal.
“He clearly knows he made a huge mistake by deciding to light fireworks without knowing where they came from,” King Sr. added. “And at the same time it's like, 'What can I do to make this positive?' ” he asks.
