Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has opened up about how he resisted the urges of Hollywood executives who told him he was “too big” to star in movies.
“As I was pushing my career forward, doing the best I could to move my career forward, I had moments of doubt.” Hobbs and Shaw the star said Entertainment Weekly. He recalled an oft-repeated “advice” from industry executives: “If you want to be a leading actor, you're too big; you can't go to the gym, you have to lose weight, you have to lose weight.” Go on a diet.”
Johnson admitted that he “began to question” himself after hearing this. “If you don't know any better, then admit it,” he said. The actor believes that ambiguity can be seen in his work from that period. “Some of these films, when I was making them, I think, reflect that,” he said.
But then he had an epiphany that would change the course of his career.
“Then there came a point when, pardon my language, I said, 'Fk, I'm not going to do this anymore, I'm going to do it myself.' And if I fail, then I fail to be myself,'” Johnson explained.
Pointing upwards, he continued: “When I said, 'Oh, fuck all this,' a funny thing happened: that's how my career went.” “I became very aware of the power of being authentic and real.”
Johnson remains one of the biggest blockbusters worldwide with his roles in blockbuster films. Fast and Furious series as well as leading roles in their own franchises such as Jungle Trip And Black Man.
He will next star in the Christmas action-adventure comedy The Red OneAlso starring Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka and JK Simmons; In theaters November 15, 2024.
