“Exes and Ohs” singer Elle King has revealed details about her troubled relationship with her father, Rob Schneider, who King claims she hasn't spoken to in “four or five years.” The 35-year-old musician, who recently announced her sobriety following a widely criticized performance at the Grand Ole Opry, made the revelations on the latest episode of Bunnie XO. Dumb Blonde podcasts.
“I went four or five years without speaking to my father,” King explained. “I don't want to be associated with him. He's just not a good person. You can only want someone to change so badly. You can't control other people's actions. You can't control other people's emotions. The only thing you can control is how you react and what you do with your emotions.”
According to King, Schneider “forgot every birthday” during her childhood, including her 18th birthday. “I spent my 18th birthday at a summer school and they brought me cake, and when I came home my dad forgot my birthday,” she recalled.
King is the daughter of Schneider and former model London King. They divorced in 1989, just a year after King was born. Since they did not share a last name, many people were unaware of King and Schneider's relationship until after her debut album. “I put out my records and people started asking me about my dad. My dad called me and said, 'Don't talk f—ing about me in the press,'” King claimed.

King reiterated that her father's status in the entertainment industry did nothing to help her when trying to break into the music world. “He didn't have a very good reputation,” she said at the time she was developing her career.
King concluded the discussion by referencing recent headlines about Schneider's controversial statements. “I don't agree with a lot of the things he says,” he claimed. “You're talking out of your ass and talking shit about transgenderism and anti-gay rights and that's, f*ck you,” King told his father.
King added: “He's just talking out of his own mind and I want to take this opportunity to say I disagree. I don't agree with what he's saying.”
