Eric Roberts apologizes to his sister Julia Roberts in the pages of his new memoir: Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far.

Eric and Julia, despite growing up together in Georgia, had a very public, contentious relationship for the better part of four decades. The siblings' bond began to deteriorate in the early '80s, when actor Eric was at the height of his fame and Julia was struggling with a cocaine addiction while just starting out in the business. However, they officially separated around 1992, when Julia was financially supporting her brother's ex-wife, Kelly Cunningham, during a bitter custody dispute over the couple's child. American Horror Story Star Emma Roberts.

Eric made a bold claim in 2018 Vanity Fair This was not well received either Beautiful woman “If it weren't for me, there would be no Julia Roberts and no Emma Roberts as celebrities, as actresses, and I'm very proud of that,” she said. “When Julia first came to New York, I went to William Morris and said, 'Which one of you is going to sign my sister Julia?' And I'm very proud that everybody knows that I was the first, because I was the first by far. I was the first to get a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination, so I'm very proud of that.”

Eric apologized to Julia for the statement in his new memoir. “I hope Julia accepts this public apology. It was a stupid thing to say,” he wrote.

Eric also admits that he alone is responsible for the broken bond between Julia and their sister Lisa. “I wouldn't be surprised if they suffered from PTSD from a time when it was dangerous to be around me,” he says in the book. “Lisa and Julia needed love and protection; instead they experienced fear and uncertainty.”

The book continues: “Of course, the biggest consequence of my drug use was losing Emma,” the actor says of the custody battle. But he hopes his family will forgive him for his crimes. “I think I’ll be Julia’s brother and Emma Roberts’ father for the rest of my life,” he writes. “I want to fulfill that and step aside with pride and grace. That’s one of the reasons I wrote the book.”
