Summary
Pokemon, known as Pocket Monsters in Japan, is a multimedia franchise co-created by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures for over twenty-five years. Conceptualized by Satoshi Tajiri along with Ken Sugimori and Junichi Masuda, Pokemon is set in fictional worlds where humans coexist with tamable creatures known as Pokemon. The people who catch, raise, and battle the creatures are known as Pokemon Trainers. They embark on extensive journeys across continents to raise their Pokémon in order to compete in tournaments to become champions. Pokemon spans several massive properties, from the long-running animated series, to the successful trading card game, to the media that started it all, to the video games. In addition, Pokemon started the trend of “two games” where two versions of the same game would be released and different Pokemon/traits would be included between the versions, encouraging players to meet others and trade “catch them all”.
