CNN has joined in a long-standing tradition of storm coverage of having one of its journalists cover literally from the eye of a hurricane, and it looks like Anderson Cooper has put the finishing touches on it. But with how dangerous Hurricane Milton was predicted to be, viewers watching at home couldn't help but question the cable news network's decision.
Cooper broadcast from near the Manatee River, just south of Tampa, shortly after Milton made landfall in Florida as a “dangerous Category 3” storm Wednesday night. It's clear the conditions were unsafe as the 57-year-old man could be seen being blown around by heavy rain and wind.
“You can see it in the light there, it's just tearing up the Manatee River, it's coming from the north, the northeast, and the water is actually starting to overflow. If you look at the ground…” Cooper said in a viral clip, before he was suddenly cut off by a piece of debris hitting his face. “Okay, that wasn't good, we'll probably be going in soon,” he added.

Others questioned why Cooper was there. One user asked, “What would putting Anderson Cooper on a pier in the middle of the ocean at the height of a hurricane do in informing viewers?” he wrote. “Like winds blowing 120 miles per hour. Bring in my sweet porcelain glass anchor.”
What does putting Anderson Cooper on a pier in the middle of the ocean, amidst a hurricane, do in informing audiences? Like winds blowing at 190 miles per hour. Let in my sweet porcelain glass hoe

βCan someone get Anderson Cooper away from that railing before he gets dragged away?β another viewer pleaded.

But if there was a unifying theme among concerned viewers, it was questioning why CNN had no problem endangering Cooper's life by having him report in the middle of a hurricane, but wouldn't let our man go free on New Year's Eve. broadcasting.
βCNN better let Anderson Cooper pass out on New Year's Eve for this,β one viewer commented, echoing the sentiments of countless others.

I like that CNN has no problem putting Anderson Cooper right in the middle of Hurricane Milton, but somehow draws the line at letting him drink on New Year's Eve

CNN better let Anderson Cooper drink on New Year's Eve this year after sending him to Florida and report outside during this hurricane.

Assuming Anderson Cooper doesn't get swept out to sea tonight, our next set of sightings of him will be when he takes a shot of tequila in New York. Human beings contain multiplicities. pic.twitter.com/KxDBkpKUuq

Let the man have a drink. He earned more than he earned.
