Fisher-Price Recalls Nearly 400,000 Fitness Toys Due to Safety Hazard

Fisher-Price is recalling nearly 400,000 models of a toy that could pose a choking hazard for babies, the company said on its Instagram account.

The toymaker has issued a voluntary recall for approximately 366,200 toy dumbbells sold with the Fisher-Price Baby Biceps Gift Set. The dumbbells have gray caps on both sides that can come off, posing a choking hazard for young children. No injuries were reported due to the malfunction, but the company received 11 complaints across North America about the caps coming loose from the product.

The gift set retails for around $18 and is available at Walmart, Kohl's, Fred Meyer, Hobby Lobby, Marshalls, TJMaxx, Buy Buy Baby, and Target stores across the U.S. The sets are also available through online retailers like Amazon, Walmart.com, Zulily, Target, and other websites from April 2020 through August 2024.

The other sports-themed toys in the set (which include a kettlebell with teething handle, a wearable headband, and a fake protein shake) have not been recalled and are safe for kids of all ages to play with.

Fisher-Price is asking that those who purchased the set verify the affected model number, GJD49, on the back of the kettlebell toy. If your model number matches, refer to Mattel's website for instructions on obtaining a refund.

“Once the consumer provides consent that the dumbbell toy will be disposed of according to instructions, the consumer will be reimbursed $10 for the dumbbell toy only,” Fisher-Price explained in a statement. “Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required to receive a refund for the dumbbell.”

The company continued: “We are committed to educating parents and caregivers on the safe use of all our products, including the importance of following all warnings and instructions to ensure the health and safety of infants and children.”
