Flight Attendant Shares Hack to Check Hotel Rooms for Bedbugs

Nothing ruins your holiday more than finding bedbugs in your hotel room, which can quickly infect clothes and luggage. However, sometimes even thoroughly checking mattresses and bedding can fail to uncover evidence of sneaky bloodsuckers; That's why a flight attendant recently revealed the hack airline crews use on the go.

The advice was recently shared on TikTok by Chicago-based flight attendant and registered nurse Hannah, who revealed that the first thing she does at every hotel she stays in is check for bedbugs.

Hannah, along with her uncle, who has worked as a flight attendant for more than 13 years, said that you should first lift all the sheets and check the corners for mistakes. Another trick he passed on was leaving a bar of soap on the bed to “get the bedbugs out.”

But if all else fails, most people probably won't be aware of the next clue he reveals. “Bedbugs are also attracted to the carbon dioxide you breathe out, so if you're sleeping at night, they'll come out,” he continued. “So sometimes I like to turn the corner and start breathing in bed.”

“Bedbugs are no joke and whenever they bite you [the bites] “They're painful, they're red, they're big, they cause swelling,” he added, repeating: “So make sure you check for bedbugs.”

However, you should also pay attention to other clues when examining bedbugs (even if you don't see the bugs themselves). Bedbugs also leave behind eggs that look like small white capsules, as well as tiny black specks that are literally fecal matter. Insects sometimes also shed their exoskeletons, which are about the same size and shape as insects and are often translucent in color.

Either way, when it comes to these pests, prevention is undoubtedly the best treatment because once you introduce them into your home, bed bug infestations can be quite difficult to eradicate.
