Although the Big Bang event and Chapter 5 are rapidly approaching Fortnite and preparing to change it massively, players are currently enjoying a blast from the past with the incredibly popular Fortnite: OG mini-season. Not only does Fortnite: OG get rid of some newer mechanics and bring back the old map, but it also lets players use some of their favourite Vaulted weapons.

I Don’t Know What Fortnite Is Anymore

I used to play Fortnite every day. Now when I occasionally jump back in, I don’t really know what I’m looking at anymore.

The list of old Fortnite guns that are no longer around anymore is absolutely massive, which means that players are having a great time getting to experience them all over again. That being said, there’s one weapon that is getting the most love and requests to make a proper return in the next season – the Infantry Rifle.

For those that don’t remember, the Infantry Rifle is a basic single-shot rifle that was first introduced to Fortnite in Chapter 1, Season 7, before being sadly vaulted from Chapter 2 onwards. It might not sound too special, but its fast firing capabilities and high damage potential from headshots make it one of the most reliable weapons in Fortnite.

That’s exactly what most fans seem to agree on, anyway. Over on the Fortnite subreddit, Redditor HeyGoogleOff shared an image of the Infantry Rifle and said, “We can easily say this is one of the MOST underrated guns in the entire game”, before calling it their favourite weapon in all of Fortnite: OG.

As of the time of writing, that simple post has over 2,700 upvotes, making it one of the most popular threads on the Fortnite subreddit over the past few days. The comments section is full of praise for the Infantry Rifle, particularly for its high damage output when used right, with one fan calling it “absolutely disgusting” if the player knows what they’re doing.

Fortnite: OG also brings back infinitely less popular weapons like the Grappler and Flintlock Pistol.

Some of the other elements of the Infantry Rifle that players have been celebrating are its satisfying reload sound, the fact that it can be found pretty much anywhere and isn’t limited to just rare variants, and its reliable accuracy. One fan even went as far as calling it “basically what I always wanted the DMR to be”, which is high praise indeed.

It seems that a lot of Fortnite players forgot just how great the Infantry Rifle really is and have been given a nice reminder of its potential with Fortnite: OG. Whether Epic deems that enough to give the weapon a comeback tour for Chapter 5 isn’t clear, but here’s hoping that it becomes a regular weapon again.
