If you were going to throw a watch into space and expect it to come back intact, G-Shock would probably be a safe bet for a watch that could survive. The Japanese watch brand is certainly aware that its fans feel its watches can withstand just about anything, and now it’s introduced its fifth NASA-inspired watch, the GW6900NASA24-1.

The latest addition to G-Shock’s NASA collection keeps things classic, but also shakes things up from previous iterations, which were mostly white (except for an orange model from 2022). The GW6900NASA24-1 comes in black and draws much of its inspiration from parent company Casio’s iconic calculators, blending what the brand says is “nostalgia with modern design.” The watch is based on the GW6900, giving it a softer, rounder look.

The case measures 53.2×50×17.7mm and is made of resin, like the band. As with most G-Shocks, there are a bunch of fun extras, including a world timer, 1/100-second stopwatch, four alarms, and more. It’s water resistant to 200 meters (which shouldn’t be a big deal unless the descent goes haywire). It’s solar-powered, and once charged, its rechargeable battery can last an estimated nine months under normal use without exposure to light.

For true space and physics fans, the most exciting thing is the watch's backlight. When you press the button of the EL backlight indicator, the word “gravity” will appear along with Newton's gravitational force formula: F=(m₁m₂)/R². Meanwhile, the case back is engraved with the pulse formula, E=1/2mv.2A nod to G-Shock's reputation for shock resistance.

The GW6900NASA24-1 watch is also one of the more affordable products G-Shock has released in recent months, priced at just $170.
