George Clooney has lashed out at Quentin Tarantino, telling him to “f— you” for his comments that allegedly criticized Clooney's film career.
Clooney sits down for a new interview GQ next to him Wolves Co-star Brad Pitt, who has worked with Tarantino on two of his most acclaimed projects. He starred in both Inglourious Basterds (2009) and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (2019) was the last film to earn Pitt his first Oscar.
When the outlet asked Clooney if Pitt felt “competitive” about collaborating with Tarantino, Ocean's Eleven Yildiz said she didn't feel like she was missing out on anything.
“Quentin said some things about me recently, so I'm a little upset,” Clooney explained. “He did an interview where he named movie stars and [Pitt]and another and then [the interviewer] 'What about George?' he asks. [Tarantino] “He's not a movie star,” he said. And then he said something like, “Give me a [good] 'I've been in movies since the millennium.' I said, 'Since the millennium? That's my whole f—ing career.'”
At this point, GQ Pitt started laughing.
“Now I'm like, OK, man, fuck you,” Clooney concluded. “I'm not afraid to give her s–t. She gave me s–t.”
It's unclear which Tarantino interview Clooney was referring to. GQ or any other outlet has uncovered the director’s statements reflecting Clooney’s memoirs. The two have worked together once, but not in a Tarantino-directed film. They played brothers From Dusk to DawnThe film was written by Tarantino but was directed by Robert Rodriguez.
When Clooney said this GQRegarding Tarantino's performance, Pitt responded, “He was pretty good in the movie too.”
“It was OK “It’s in you,” Clooney replied.
If Tarantino had anything against Clooney, perhaps he felt slighted by a less-than-flattering video that went viral in 2023 of the actor's deadpan imitation of the director, recalling an interview they did to promote the director. From Dusk to DawnIn the clip, Clooney recalls that Tarantino cast them as brothers in Rodriguez's film because he thought they looked alike in real life. At this, Clooney scrunches up his face and says, “What?!”

Later GQ Clooney appeared to defend his movie star status against Tarantino and other perceived critics in the interview. “There's a story that people like to make about me, like I'm always playing a version of myself,” Clooney explained. “And I always say, 'Okay, okay, but I don't think there are too many people who do that.'” Hey Brother, Where Are You? And Michael Clayton.'”
Clooney continued: “I think part of the reason I was allowed to do it was because there were so many genre movies that I was in that weren't successful. If you're not wildly successful in action movies, then nobody's going to want you to do more action movies. And it's the same with anything. So part of life for me has always been that a lack of great success has given me the opportunity to do other things and try new things.”
