It could be Ted Lasso will return for a fourth season? Industry gossip seems to suggest so, as three stars of the hit Apple TV+ series have reportedly signed on tentatively.
Accordingly Hollywood ReporterThe series was produced by Warner Bros. Television, which picked up options for Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift, who would portray Rebecca Walton, Roy Kent, and Leslie Higgins, respectively. All three actors were under contract to Equity, a UK-based acting union.
If those options are granted, the studio would need to strike new deals for other principal actors, co-creators and executive producers represented by SAG-AFTRA, including Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt and Juno Temple.
Season 3 Ted Lasso It wrapped on May 31, 2023. However, while the series never confirmed that it would be its final season, it did feel like a series finale; it gave all the main characters an epilogue of sorts. The lead character, played by Sudeikis, returns to Kansas where he finally reunites with his wife and son; Coach Beard marries his pregnant girlfriend Jane at Stonehenge; Roy becomes the new manager of Richmond; and Rebecca and Keeley decide to join forces to sponsor a Richmond women's team.
The third season also suffered a decline in critical ratings, earning just an 81% rating from critics. Rotten Tomatoes; 92 percent and 98 percent rates were compared for seasons 1 and 2.
In a recent interview Hollywood ReporterCo-creator Bill Lawrence expressed hopes for a fourth season, explaining that the team is waiting for Sudekis to make a decision.
“Without even talking to each other, every actor, actress, writer, producer and [we didn’t get] “We came together and decided that was the message — we all loved the experience,” Lawrence recalls. “As fans, we would all kill if it were to happen again, but everyone said the same thing: Whatever Jason wants to do and whatever he decides to do, we're all for it.”
“He's not just the star, he's the head writer, and he's also the guy whose life has to be completely overhauled and he's moved to a foreign country with young kids,” he continued. “It's a big deal. So, as a fan, if someone says, 'Oh, it's going to happen again,' I'm going to freak out. As a partner, I'm willing to do whatever he wants to do.”
After its first season aired in 2020, Ted Lasso was nominated for a record 20 Primetime Emmy Awards, making it the most nominated first-season comedy in Emmy history. Over its three seasons, the series won an impressive 11 Emmys from 61 nominations.
