The legend on which Universal Studios Hollywood based their version of El Charro begins in a cantina very similar to what guests will encounter towards the beginning of this maze. Depending on who you talk to, a man named Juan or Jose is a poor minor. One night, instead of visiting his wife and extended family, he decides to have a drink with his friends at the mine. As time passes, he drinks more and more until he is the last one left in the cantina.

At one point, he screams that it's unfair that he's poor and that he'd do anything to be rich. On the walk, a man in a dark suit sits with him and explains that he can make his dreams come true. The man makes a deal with the devil. When he wakes up in the morning, he finds sacks of gold that he spent on food, drink, and girlfriends. As he approaches the end of his life, he realizes that he has to pay and gets on his horse.

Finally the devil catches up to him, condemning him to eternity as El Charro – with his horse. Now he accepts the bag of gold and is forced to find a replacement. The person who agrees will have immeasurable wealth, the only cost? Their soul.

Resist El Charro, the rider of Hell, or he will take your soul.

Meet El Cadejo

Spirit as Dogman

The myth of El Cadejo is that God created a white dog to act as a spirit animal for humans and help guide them in the path of righteousness. This white dog would take them to heaven at the end of their lives. But according to legend, the devil got jealous and made himself a dog. He sent that dog to Earth to get involved in all of this – and that dog is El Cadejo.

As guests walk through the maze, they encounter El Cadejo's lair, which is full of half-eaten bodies and bones left behind by the dog. There are several points when El Cadejo unexpectedly exits as the corners are rounded. Because he is a dog, this monster is only acted by puppets and not by any live horror actors.

Don't turn your back on El Cadejo, the demon dog, or you'll be lost forever.

Meet El Cucuy

The Child-Stealing Boogeyman

Maybe Of the three new monsters, the most terrifying is El Cucuy. This creature is actually the Latin American boogeyman. The legend that accompanies this monster is a classic story that parents tell their children when they want them to behave. They are told to go to sleep or the monsters under the bed will take you to their cave in the mountains and eat you.

The interesting thing about El Cucuy is that there are all these different stories about him, but the myth is that no one has ever seen his face or lived. However, there are all these images of what he looks like, so we used that as inspiration for our character design.“, explains John Murdy.

This story begins in a house during Dia de los Muertos, where people set up altars in their homes to offer sacrifices to the spirits of their loved ones and relatives. The idea behind Universal Studios Hollywood is this: If you welcome all these spirits into your home, what if something else comes in?

Guests first see El Cucuy on the roof with a sack full of children he kidnapped. As you pass through the family home, you end up in a child's bedroom. He is crying in his bed, and El Cucuy's sack is on the bed. After this room, guests go to a cave filled with souvenirs that the monster has taken from the houses it visited. Here you will also face El Cucuy. If you look closely, there are children in the mouth.

You better behave or the boogeyman El Cucuy is going to get you.
