Halo Infinite Developer Skybox Labs is laying off 25 employees.
The NetEase study said the layoffs were made in response to “unprecedented challenges that have impacted so many companies in the industry.”
Skybox was founded in 2011 and has worked on major titles such as Minecraft, Fallout 76, Destiny 2AND Halo InfiniteThe company has expanded significantly over the years and currently has over 275 team members working on multiple AAA projects.
Chinese conglomerate NetEase acquired Skybox Labs in 2023 for an undisclosed fee. At the time, NetEase said it would provide the studio with the resources and execution capabilities it needed to retain staff and hire new employees.
“NetEase will support the studio with resources and execution capabilities so that SkyBox Labs can scale faster while maintaining the quality of work the studio is known for,” it is stated in a press release issued on the occasion time.
In a statement posted on LinkedIn, Skybox explained that it has decided to downsize.
“Today we informed our studio that we have reduced staffing at SkyBox. In total, 25 people in our studio have been affected. Despite all our efforts, we are not immune to the unprecedented challenges that have impacted so many companies in the industry,” read the statement.
“Every impacted employee will receive full support through severance, extended benefits, career transition services, and connections to other resources to provide them with the assistance they need during this difficult time. We are grateful to everyone who has chosen to join the SkyBox team and are deeply grateful for their contributions to our studio and the amazing games we have created together.”
Skybox Labs becomes the latest in a seemingly endless list of companies of having made layoffs in 2024.
