Season 2 shrinking It premiered on Apple TV+ on Wednesday. In the series, Jason Segel plays a therapist who is saddened by the death of his wife and begins using unconventional methods on his patients, much to the chagrin of his senior colleague, played by Harrison Ford. It turns out the unusual dynamic between the two characters isn't all that different from their real-life counterparts.
During an appearance The Late Show with Stephen Colbert This week, the host noted that working with Ford could be pretty intimidating, and Segel more than agreed. At this point, the 44-year-old actor recalled filming a scene in which his co-star tried to push him off the canoe.
“There was a scene where he and I were canoeing on a beautiful lake one day,” Segel explained. “And I got there and there was a moment where I was really struggling; it was like I was going to be on a canoe with Harrison Ford all day; such a dream thing, life worked out. Then we started shooting and I started doing my acting.”
“And then suddenly I felt the canoe start to shake and it tried to capsize me and throw me into the water. So I turned around. [and he’s like]'I'm sorry, kid,' he continued, imitating Ford's stern tone. 'Then we shoot another part of the scene where I'm standing by the lake. While I'm acting, I look out, it pushes me towards the water and I catch myself. I turned around and he said, 'Oh, I'm sorry, kid.'
“So I put it out of my mind that it was jealousy. I guess we're friends,” Segel said optimistically. Colbert agreed, comparing it to a kid who punches you on the playground because he has a crush on you.
“Our relationship in real life is the same as our relationship on the show. I desperately want his approval and he wants to humiliate me.” How I met your mother star added.
When asked if Ford would enjoy working on a comedy, Segel said he really thought so, recalling a moment from filming the first season when the legendary actor was greeted with great laughter by the crew. “They yelled 'Cut,' and he walked by and whispered in my ear, 'I knew I was so funny,'” he recalled with a laugh.
