High School Quarterback Dies After Devastating Injury on Opening Night

An Alabama high school quarterback tragically lost his life after suffering a devastating injury on opening night of the football season. İŞGÖS 12 reported.

Caden Tellier, 16, suffered a devastating brain injury during the opening game of the season between his team, the Morgan Academy Senators, and the Southern Academy Cougars. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but died Saturday morning. It was not immediately clear what caused the young man's injuries.

Tellier’s death has sparked an outpouring of grief in the small Selma, Ala., community of which he is a part. On Monday, students at nearby Edgewood Academy held a prayer vigil for Morgan and their peers at Southern.

Morgan Academy Principal Bryan Oliver released a statement confirming Tellier's death and offering support to the school's staff and students, as well as Tellier's extended family.

“Caden loved God with all his heart and was a shining light every day he graced the halls of Morgan Academy,” Oliver wrote. “He was a student, a friend, an athlete, and most importantly [sic]”A Christ follower. There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family. Caden will never be forgotten for who he was and what he meant to Morgan Academy.”

Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) Executive Director Michael McLendon released a statement saying all school events for the next week have been canceled in an effort to give Selma residents a chance to grieve.

“We ask that our entire AISA family and the people of Alabama join us in prayers that Caden’s family and the Morgan Academy community find peace and solace during this difficult time,” McLendon said.

A GoFundMe campaign set up by a friend of Tellier's family has raised approximately $85,000 of the $100,000 goal.
