New Border areas movie hit theaters in 2024, but Eli Roth's Border areas cast vs. The game is very different from their descriptions. The Gearbox video game series of the same name combines first-person shooting in a space-western setting with role-playing elements. There were three main games and several spinoffs focused on different parts of this universe. For example, while Lilith is a vault hunter in the games, everything changes in the movie as she is sent to find someone's missing daughter.

like a movie Border areas is a sci-fi comedy with an all-star cast that tries to bring as many laughs as the explosive fight scenes. Lilith (Cate Blanchett) teams up with a group of villains, including weapons expert Roland (Kevin Hart), demolitions expert Tony Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), bandit Krieg (Florian Muntianu) and robot Claptrap (Jack Black). Add more actors like Jamie Lee Curtis, Edgar Ramirez and Gina Gershon, and it's clearly not what video game fans expected.

Cate Blanchett as Lilith

First Appearance Borderlands (2009) As a playable character

Cate Blanchett was the first actor announced for the film Border areas in the movie and she plays Lilith, the main character of the game. He was one of the original Vault Hunters that the player could make choose the first one Border areas the gamerepresents the powerful Siren class and is an important NPC in the sequel and pre-sequel. In the film, he is also the leader of the group and easily plays the main lead of the ensemble.

Blanchett is 54 and Lilith is 22 years old.

Blanchett is a good choice for the role, as she comes with a rich pedigree, including eight nominations for two Oscars (Aviator, Blue Jasmine). However, there are some key differences here. Although both Blanchett and Lilith have red hair in the game, Blanchett is much older than the video game character. Blanchett is 54 and Lilith is 22 in the game. Another major difference is that Lilith is not a Siren until the end of the movie, where she has always been one in the game.

The biggest Borderlands characters missing from Eli Roth's action-comedy film adaptation is somewhat surprising, especially given the large cast.

Kevin Hart as Roland

First Appearance Borderlands (2009) As a playable character

Roland is one of the playable Vault Hunters in the first game, and he represents the Soldier class. while Border areas known for his dark and extreme sense of humor throughout the gamesyet the story has dramatic weight, and some characters are more revealing than others. Roland is a good example of this as he often takes on a more serious role as a soldier and even shows a romantic interest for Lilith.

Kevin Hart occasionally steps into dramatic roles, but not for his role as Roland.

Kevin Hart occasionally steps into dramatic roles, but not for his role as Roland in Borderlands. Instead of being the stoic soldier he was in the video games, he's the comic relief with little hints of a dashing action hero. He's also very different from Roland, who is a fascinating figure in the games, but the movie does little to do. to hide that Kevin Hart is almost taller than Ariana Greenblatt's Tiny Tina. It's more of a distraction for game fans than Blanchett's age difference.

Dr. Jamie Lee Curtis as Patricia Tannis

First Appearance Borderlands (2009) As an NPC

Patricia Tannis is an archaeologist and scientist who doesn't quite understand her mind after her experience exploring a vault on Pandora. He is crucial to the plot of the first game and also appears in the sequel. However, he is not a playable character and is simply an NPC that players interact with during their missions. Considering this, Eli Roth still chose a superstar with Jamie Lee Curtis to play the role.

The casting of Blanchett and Curtis made it seem impossible to franchise.

Curtis is a great actor and fits almost any role he plays. However, in Border areashe was seen by many as an awkward casting choice as Kevin Hart as a serious soldier. Like the other characters in the film, Roth chose to take a character from the game and make him completely different. Like Lilith, Tannis is young, much younger than Curtis. The casting choices chose strong actors rather than accurate game descriptions.

Netflix's Arcane sets itself apart from other video game adaptations by proving that it can be successful without catering solely to game fans.

Jack Black as Claptrap

First Appearance Borderlands (2009) As an NPC

Jack Black seems like a natural choice to play the series mascot Claptrap. Claptrap is an overzealous robotic NPC that appears throughout the gamesand Black is an actor who can bring enough energy and comedy to the role to keep it entertaining, as in the wrong hands it could potentially be annoying.

Claptrap was one of the better video game-to-film adaptations, as it shares many of the game's signature parts. It includes a trapezoidal body shape and mechanical arms with attached claw gears. The yellow color scheme is the same, and the single blue, glowing eye on the circular lens is straight from the games. The only real difference is Jack Black's voice, and that doesn't really hurt. She gets most of the best lines, including some that should go to Tiny Tina based on the games.

The Best Order to Play All Borderlands Games

Borderlands is a franchise known for starting the looter shooter genre, but with so many games, what's the best order to play them all?

Ariana Greenblatt as Little Tina

First Appearance Borderlands (2009) As an NPC

Little Tina is a fan favorite Border areas character. He is a small teenager who is whimsical but wild. He's an expert at takedowns and as deadly as they come, but he protects the kid's immaturity. In the film, it was necessary to find a young actress who could play innocent, but often angry and sometimes even vulgar roles. Apparently they found it in Ariana Glynnblatt, who was 16 when the movie came out.

Greenblatt started working on the Disney Channel as a child Stuck in the middle when he was only nine years old. It's almost shocking to see him playing a more grown-up role just a few years later, but it worked well for the character in the game. Tiny Tina's entire origin has been changed. Although he looks like a character from the games in the movie, he is actually genetically modified, which changes his origin even if his personality and appearance remain similar.

Edgar Ramirez as Atlas

Not in Atlas Games

Atlas is a character lacking diversity Border areas video games. She was created as an original character to move the plot for the movies and change the entire mission that Lilith knew in the games. In the movie, Edgar Ramirez plays Deucalian Atlas, and he's a badass. He hires Lilith to find his missing daughter, but that's not what he wanted. He genetically engineered Tiny Tina and sent Lilith to find her to open the Vault.

Tina is the only one who can open it, and gives the dangerous weapon she believes Atlas contains. However, there is a connection to video games. In the games, Atlas is one of the many companies that produce weapons and shields. This is a company, not a person or villain. However, the company is a threat throughout the game and no one is shown to lead it. It's possible that the Atlas in the movie is the CEO of Atlas, never seen in the games.

Gina Gershon as Mad Moxxi

First Appearance Borderlands (2009) Like DLC

Mad Moxxi is a DLC character Border areasa sadistic, charming, dangerous and fierce warrior. She is also promiscuous and has had multiple boyfriends during her time in the game's fictional world. She's not very old though, and is probably in her 40s, older than the other characters in this game, but younger than at least Lilith and Tannis in the movie. This is a recurring theme, though Gina Gershon plays Mad Moxxi and Gershon is 62 years old.

Roth seems to have cast some older actresses to play the roles of younger action heroes from video games, which is to be commended. However, while it's nice to see these ladies still get major roles, it makes them very different from the video game in age, appearance, and origin stories. He has a long list of credits to his name, including Gershon Cocktail, Pretty in Pink, Red Heat, Showgirlsand more.
