Cities: Skylines 2 – How To Increase High-Density Demand

Looking to create a bustling big city in Cities: Skylines 2? Here, you can learn how to increase demand for high-density housing.

Here, you can find all the best ways to reduce crime in your city. This will cover basic police station placement, as well as other buildings that can lower the total amount of crime that occurs in your city. First, let’s cover the Info overlay for your city’s crime.

The first step to checking your city’s crime is to head to the Police panel of the Info Views menu, which is found in the upper left-hand corner of your screen. When you click on the police badge icon, you will see all the information pertaining to police and crime.

Overall, you are aiming to have green streets and buildings. When streets are green, this means that you have good coverage for the police. Green buildings mean that there is a low probability of crime occurring there. Combined, this is low crime with plenty of police.

In this panel, you can also see jail and prison availability, as well as how many crimes are occurring. In the image above, you can see that the city has a one percent crime probability, with crimes having a 37.5 percent success rate. This isn’t a crime-free city, but it’s still pretty good considering the city’s population of over 50,000.

Zoom out and take a look at your city. Are any buildings or roads leaning more towards red? If so, you may need to place some police stations.

How To Place Police Stations

Police stations are the best way to reduce crime in your city. Each station has a coverage range; any zones in this range will have a quicker response time for police. If you notice any areas in your city with bad coverage, you should place a police station down.

We suggest placing the station in a central location on a main road. If a crime is occurring, you don’t want the police cars to drive through a maze of streets just to reach their destination.

It’s also important to note that police stations, by default, only have six cars available. If this isn’t enough, then crime in the area may increase. Rather than building another station though, you can add a garage extension, which adds six more vehicles that can be sent to patrol the city.

How To Place Crime-Reducing Buildings

The main buildings here that are important for crime reduction are the Police Headquarters, Prison, Central Intelligence Bureau, and Welfare Office.

We suggest unlocking the Police Headquarters first, which allows you to broaden your police range. Additionally, the police helicopter upgrade can come in handy for those out-of-reach neighborhoods.

Before placing each building type, it’s important to ask if it’s necessary or not. For example, if your citizens already have high well-being, is a Welfare Office needed? Additionally, you shouldn’t need more than one Prison in your city, as they can hold a lot of criminals.

Be sure to look at noise pollution from these buildings. For example, even though the Prison reduces the nearby crime rate, it has noise pollution that may not be wanted near residential zones.

What Is Well-Being?

Well-being is based on a lot of factors, including pollution, health, education, and entertainment. If a citizen is happy, healthy, and stable, then they may have a higher well-being. This correlates to the crime rate, as those with low well-being have a higher chance of committing a crime.

With the Welfare Office, you can boost well-being in an area which, in turn, may reduce crime. Other buildings can increase well-being too. For example, the Playground upgrade for Elementary Schools increases the well-being of students and adults.

Some signature buildings can increase well-being nearby.

What Other Factors Affect Crime?

The probability of a citizen committing a crime can depend on other factors that don’t involve police coverage. It’s important to look at the following factors as well.

  • Unemployment
  • Total Happiness
  • Homelessness

Overall, throwing down a few police stations is not a quick fix; you will need to see what other factors in your city could be contributing to a high crime rate.

Chirper notifications can provide some insight, but it’s important to note that some citizens seem to complain about issues that are not too major. For example, a citizen will almost always be complaining about noise pollution, regardless of how quiet your city is.
