Baldur’s Gate 3: How To Romance Gale

If you’re looking for a little magic, romancing Gale will have you seeing stars.

One is a mystery you may come across should Gale ever perish. If you fail to pick him up when he’s downed, or if he happens to fall to his demise, a projection of him will turn up to warn you of the dangers of letting him die. You’ll then be given a set of instructions in order to bring him back.

How To Resurrect Gale

If Gale gets killed while you’re adventuring, his projection will appear to give you detailed instructions on how to bring him back. The projection will also stress how important it is that he is revived immediately.

After listening to Gale’s instructions, he’ll quiz you on it to see if you were paying close attention. Don’t worry about making mistakes here, because your companions will correct you every time you do so. You can get some pretty entertaining responses out of it too.

While you can make mistakes when you give your answers to Gale’s quiz, try to make sure you’ve gotten the steps memorized by the actual ritual. Making a mistake during the actual ritual may lead to its complete failure.

The steps are convoluted, but it’s only to protect a valuable item you receive at the end: a True Scroll of Resurrection. These are the steps to successfully resurrect Gale:

  1. Open Gale’s pouch found on his body. It’s a small brown pouch wrapped in scarlet, yellow, and purple threads.
  2. Unravel the thread wrapping the pouch by pulling the purple thread in a counterclockwise fashion.
  3. Inside the pouch, you’ll find a letter and a flute. Open the letter to read the instructions for playing the flute correctly.
  4. Select the flute, then play the notes D, E, A, and D in that order.
  5. A mephit will be summoned, and will speak to you. Respond to it by saying K’ha’ssji’trach’ash.
  6. The mephit will acknowledge your response, and you can then hand it the letter.
  7. The mephit will breathe on the letter, and it’ll turn into a True Scroll of Resurrection.
  8. Select the True Scroll of Resurrection from your inventory, then use it to resurrect Gale.

Following the steps correctly will result in a successful revival of your wizard companion. He’ll thank you for bringing him back, and you can ask him why it was so vital to revive him.

If you do fail to get the scroll, you can actually use any other Scroll of Revivify to bring Gale back to life. The only difference between the True Scroll of Resurrection and the Scroll of Revivify is that the former restores a person back to full health.
