- How Vendor Upgrades Work In Season Of The Wish
Destiny 2’s Season of the Wish features a vendor upgrade system that should feel familiar to veteran players. Instead of a traditional upgrade grid or a drip-fed source, Season of the Wish lets players unlock every vendor upgrade immediately by completing a unique set of Seasonal Challenges.
Destiny 2: Season Of The Wish – All Week 1 Seasonal Challenges
Defeat enemies with Swords, complete Dreaming City activities, and use Primary weapons in ritual content to complete some of this week’s challenges.
There are nine upgrades in total this season, most of which unlock the ability to earn red border drops and Engram focusing options. This guide will explain how this upgrade system works, and we’ll explain how to complete all nine challenges tied to Riven’s Spirit, the main vendor for Season of the Wish.
How Vendor Upgrades Work In Season Of The Wish
The vendor upgrade this season is identical to how it worked in Season of the Deep. The traditional 3×7 upgrade grid has been replaced with a set of Seasonal Challenges, found under the “Seasonal Bonuses” tab of the Seasonal Challenges menu. There are nine vendor unlocks for Season of the Wish.
Unlike Seasonal Challenges, none of the vendor challenges are time-gated. If you want to unlock all nine challenges at the very start of the season, you can do so with no restrictions. These upgrades are account-bound as well, so they only need to be completed once.
Wishful Armor Focusing
Challenge |
Obtain a full set of Season of the Wish armor. |
---|---|
Unlock |
Wish Engrams can be focused into individual pieces of high-stat armor. |
Wishful Armor Focusing is unlocked upon earning a full set of Season of the Wish armor. These items drop from Riven’s Lair runs, The Coil chests, and the Season Pass reward track. Keep running Riven’s Lair until you acquire a full set. You can also redeem Wish Engrams at Riven within the H.E.L.M. for a chance of earning any armor you’re missing.
Completing this challenge unlocks the ability to focus high-stat armor with Wish Engrams. You must pick an individual armor piece for the high-stat spikes to appear. It’s comparatively on par with Defiant, Deep, and Witch focusing options. Considering this season’s Artifact includes perks that scale with Wish armor, armor focusing is especially important this season.
Wishful Weapon Focusing
Challenge |
Obtain any 6 Season of the Wish or reprised Undying weapons. |
---|---|
Unlock |
Wish Engrams can be focused into individual Season of the Wish or reprised Undying weapons. Weapons must first be obtained to be focused. |
Similar to armor focusing, unlocking weapon focusing will require you to earn six weapons from Riven’s Spire or The Coil. These activities can drop this season’s new WIsh weapons or Season of Undying reprisals. Both weapon types count for this challenge.
Obtaining six guns will unlock the ability to focus your Wish Engrams into specific seasonal weapons, provided you’ve earned that weapon previously. You’ll still need to farm Riven’s Lair to get every new weapon this season, but this option gives you a way to target-farm a specific gun. It’s also needed to use some of the Deepsight Resonance upgrades.
Wishcrafting
Challenge |
Clear 8 pathways in the Riven’s Lair playlist or within The Coil. |
---|---|
Unlock |
Each week, the first Wish weapon you focus will have Deepsight Resonance. |
A pathway refers to a successful final boss kill in Riven’s Spire or The Coil. You must defeat a total of eight bosses in Riven’s Lair or The Coil to finish this challenge. We recommend Riven’s Lair if you don’t have a group to farm with. If you do, The Coil will be far more rewarding.
WIshcrafting will guarantee that your first Wish weapon you focus will have a red border, granting progress towards its crafting pattern. Five crafting patterns are needed to forge the weapon yourself, so it will take five weeks at most to earn a crafting pattern that interests you.

Solo Operative, Unraveling Orbs, and other classic perks return with Season of the Wish’s Artifact.
Solcrafting
Challenge |
Defeat 150 Vex with reprised Undying weapons. |
---|---|
Unlock |
Each week, the first Undying weapon you focus will have Deepsight Resonance. |
Solcrafting requires you to kill 150 Vex with Season of Undying weapons. Four weapons count for this challenge, all of which drop from Riven’s Lair and Coil encounters:
- Adhortative
- Imperative
- Subjunctive
- Optative
Once you’ve defeated enough Vex, the first Undying weapon you focus each week will have a red border, allowing you to make steady progress toward unlocking the Undying crafting patterns.
Wishful Generosity
Challenge |
Reach Rank 10 with the Spirit of Riven in the H.E.L.M. |
---|---|
Unlock |
Completing activities grants an additional Wish Engram anytime one is rewarded. |
WIshful Generosity requires you to reach Rank 10 with Riven in the H.E.L.M. You earn Riven Reputation by completing Riven’s Lair runs, Coil encounters, and by successfully charging the Blind Well in the Dreaming City. We recommend farming The Coil to get this done quickly, as the ample hidden chests each grant reputation.
This challenge will grant an additional Wish Engram whenever one is earned. This works for any activity where Wish Engrams drop, not just Riven’s Lair or The Coil.
Wishful Keys
Challenge |
Redeem 8 Lair Keys by opening chests in Riven’s Lair or The Coil. |
---|---|
Unlock |
When you redeem a Lair Key in Riven’s Lair activities, you have a chance to earn an additional Wish Engram. |
Lair Keys are obtained by completing non-seasonal content, opening hidden chests in The Coil, and certain ranks of the Season Pass. You must open eight Lair Key chests to finish this challenge. A Lair Key is used at the end of every Riven’s Lair run or Coil pathway to enhance the rewards you receive, typically adding a bonus weapon or armor piece.
Using eight keys will unlock additional rewards from Lair Key usage. Whenever you use a Lair Key, it can drop an extra Wish Engram. This might sound insignificant, but those who frequently farm Coil can rack up dozens of extra Engrams with this upgrade unlocked.

Complete Season of the Wish’s core activity to earn new Awoken weapons and more.
Keycrafting
Challenge |
Complete The Coil with a score of Silver or higher. |
---|---|
Unlock |
Each week, the first Lair Key chest you open will contain a Deepsight Resonance weapon. |
The Whispering Glass Shards you collect during Coil runs will accumulate a score for your fireteam. The higher your score, the better your rank will be at the end of the Coil run. Keycrafting requires that you achieve a Silver score at the end of a Coil match.
Once you’ve reached a Silver rank and finished the mission, your first Lair Key chest of the week will drop a red border weapon. Combined with the red border focusing upgrade, you can easily finish your crafting patterns for this season if you play each week.
Well Wishes
Challenge |
Complete a T4 Blind Well run. |
---|---|
Unlock |
Each week, your first T3 Blind Well clear grants a Wish Engram, Wish weapon, or piece of high-stat Wish armor. |
Using the strongest Charge of Light item on the Blind Well will initiate a T3 run. If you kill the final boss, you will have an opportunity to insert an Unstable Charge of Light, starting a T4 run. Defeating the T4 Blind Well boss will complete the Well Wishes challenge.
Your reward for the T4 Blind Well clear is the ability to earn seasonal gear from your first T3 Blind Well clear of the week. This includes Wish Engrams, Wish weapons, and high-stat Wish armor with spikey distributions. Since this only occurs on a weekly cadence, it’s tough to recommend unlocking this upgrade before anything else. Try to finish this challenge when the seasonal quest asks for Blind Well clears.
Your Wishes, My Commands
Challenge |
Purchase T2 or higher Dragon’s Gifts in The Coil. |
---|---|
Unlock |
Additional T2 and T3 Dragon’s Gifts are available in The Coil. T2 and T3 gifts now contain an additional option. |
Before the start of a Coil pathway, Riven will give you the chance to purchase Dragon’s Gifts with Whispering Glass Shards your fireteam has acquired. For this challenge, you must purchase buffs from the T2 and T3 categories, with T3 purchases granting additional progress.
After completing this challenge, Riven will add an extra T2 and T3 option to her shop, and new T2 and T3 buffs may appear in your runs. We recommend unlocking this upgrade as soon as possible to give your builds added flexibility during Coil runs.
