I hope the Netflix documentary American Murder covers this 23-year true crime case following Laci Peterson.

This article contains a discussion of alleged murder, manipulation, and sexual exploitation.

Summary

  • American Murder documentaries may cover the disappearance and murder of Alyssa Turney, providing evidence that cannot be used in court.
  • Netflix's Alyssa Turney documentary will expand the American Crime brand beyond family-wrecking husbands.
  • Despite the lack of justice, an Alyssa Turney documentary could keep her memory alive and explore more aspects of the case.

After covering the Laci Peterson case, I hope Netflix's American Crime documentaries cover a heartbreaking true crime case from 2001 that has stuck in my mind for years. Over the past decade, Netflix has produced some of the most compelling true crime documentaries that explore tragic and strange stories. The new series of the streaming platform American Crime documentaries have been incredibly well receivedand I found myself watching them along with millions of others hoping for a third installation.

first American Crime documentary covers the death of Shanann Watts and her daughters Celeste and Bella by her husband/father Chris Watts. The new addition covers the deaths of Laci Peterson and her 8-month-old son, Conner Peterson. Both of these documentaries are so heartfelt that they tell not only about the gruesome deaths, but also about the lives of the victims before they were dismembered. American Crime: Laci Peterson it even includes interviews with family and friends, allowing viewers to get to know Lacy better. If the documentaries continue, I probably want them to explore a 23-year-old case that doesn't have a happy ending, but is still extremely important.

American Murder Documentaries Should Work Alyssa Turney's Case

Alyssa Turney was a 17-year-old girl who went missing in 2001 and was presumed dead

If I can choose the next topic American Crime Documentaries on Netflix, I would like them to investigate the disappearance and murder of Alyssa Turney, whose stepfather is Michael Turney. it is alleged that he was sexually abused and killed. On May 17, 2001, Alyssa Turney went to her last day of junior year. He was taken out of school early by his father, Michael. They went to dinner and had a fight. Alyssa then disappeared, never to be seen again.

Although there is no direct evidence of murder, it is a gruesome case with a considerable amount of evidence.
American Crime
documentaries can explore.

His father says he went to California, but the more you look into the case, the less likely it is. His fugitive post directly contradicts what Alyssa told her friends that day. Sarah Turney's testimony, referenced in the letter, occurred months before Alyssa received $300 from her father. These elements indicate that the letter was written long before she disappeared. He also left his cell phone and money behind, which I can't believe any refugee teenager would do.

Mike Turney then forced Alyssa Turney to sign contracts, at least one of which stated above, that he would never sexually or physically abuse her. This is far from ordinary. He also installed cameras in the home's vents that recorded his stepdaughter, Alyssa. He showed up at her place of work and flagged her down from the parking lot. However, for some reason, there were no videotapes of the time Alyssa disappeared. He also did not have the tapes of the alleged phone call from Alyssa, even though he recorded every phone call. Of course, Michael Turney made excuses for all this.

In addition, Reports emerged that Alyssa had told friends and some family that her father had tried to rape heralthough they could not testify about it in court because it was considered hearsay. He also told his third grade teacher, “having sex with his father” as children, but they never reported it. The video shows him telling his sister Sara that her father is a pervert.

Sexual abuse is the most damning evidence to me and would have provided Michael Turney with a clear motive to hypothetically kill Alyssa. If he was sexually abusing her and she threatened to tell someone, he could kill her to silence her. Although there is no direct evidence of murder, it is a gruesome case with a considerable amount of evidence. American Crime documentaries can explore in detail.

Now Is the Perfect Time for an Alyssa Turney Documentary

Alyssa's Family And Friends Can Speak Out Without Affecting The Case

Since coming across this case in 2018, I have been following Sarah Turney's efforts to gain attention and justice for her sister's disappearance and murder. I've always thought that everyone should hear Alyssa Turney's story. Unfortunately, there haven't been many TV programs covering the case, even though it has been covered by YouTubers. The two most important parts of a television broadcast are the episodes History and 20/20.

The only documentary about the case that has been announced is a program called Oxygen The Alyssa Turney ProjectIt will be released in the fall of 2024. Therefore, Alyssa's work will not feel overdone and will be replayed a million times for the audience. The most comprehensive coverage of the case came from Sarah Turney's podcast Voices for justice – which I have listened to many times – but not everyone listens to or enjoys podcasts. Placing the work in a visual medium would make it more accessible to a wider audience in different forms.

There's another reason why it's perfect timing for an Alyssa Turney documentary. The trial against Michael Turney ended on July 17, 2023. As with any court case that receives significant media coverage, there is a lot that family, friends and people involved in the case can say without affecting the outcome. Now it's over Alyssa's loved ones will likely be able to talk freely about their thoughts, feelings and experiences related to Alyssa's death and work.

It goes without saying that even if a documentary is made about Alyssa's case, the Turney children don't need to talk about it publicly unless they want to, because they deserve their privacy to grieve and go through the process. But at least Sarah Turney and James Turney have been particularly open and may be willing to participate in a documentary about Alyssa. I hope Netflix does something American Crimes In a documentary about Alyssa Turney, they would have allowed Sarah, James, and any other family members who wanted to talk to shape how she was presented, because it was their own experiences as much as it was Alyssa's story.

The Case of Alyssa Turney Will Expand Netflix's American Crime Brand

Netflix's American Murder Documentaries focus on husbands who kill their families

Netflix's current branding American Crime men are destroyers of the family, they pay attention to the relationship between husband and wife. Both Laci Peterson and Shanann Watts were killed by her husband Scott Peterson and Chris Watts. The men had connections that could have influenced their decision to kill their families. I want to note that this is not an excuse, but an explanation. Many people have relationships and never kill their family. Tragically, the children – Conner Peterson, Celeste Watts and Bella Watts – were killed in both cases.

Unfortunately, there will always be those who destroy the family, but other horrific cases that do not involve this type of crime deserve the attention of the media.

Alyssa Tourney's work would be tangentially related but fundamentally different. such as statements from American Crime documentaries, the Alyssa Turney case involves family secrets and tense domestic issues. However, the alleged crime—if true—consists of the father killing his stepdaughter. While documentaries focus on other family crimes, they can maintain several similarities other than the spouses, such as the killing of the father; matricide, the killing of one's mother; sororicide, the killing of one's sister; don't kill your brother, don't kill your brother; or in this case possible filicide, a parent killing their own child.

This choice will not only bring more attention to the disappearance and murder of Alyssa Turney, but will also bode well for the longevity of the documentary series. Unfortunately, there will always be those who destroy the family, but other horrific cases that do not involve this type of crime deserve the attention of the media.

Michael Turney's trial does not have a satisfying ending like the other cases in the documentary

Michael Turney Acquitted of Rule 20 Sentence

The only downside American Crime A documentary series covering the case of Alyssa Tourney will not provide the same sense of justice and closure as others. Chris Watts and Scott Peterson were sentenced to life in prison. Michael Turney was arrested in 2020 and charged with the second-degree murder of Alyssa Turney. In a shocking turn of events, a judge acquitted Michael Turney in a six-day trial without ever going before a jury. About the so-called Rule 20 ruling (via Newsweek ).

Unfortunately, even if the police tomorrow found Alyssa's body or incontrovertible evidence that Michael Turney killed Alyssa, he could not be retried under double jeopardy laws.

In Arizona, a judge may exonerate under Rule 20 if he or she believes there is no reasonable evidence that any juror could find the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Rule 20 acquittals are rare Newsweekand it bothers me a lot that the jury can't decide. I think there is at least a chance to see otherwise, although there are no guarantees.

now, In the eyes of the court, Mike Turney is innocent of Alyssa Turney's murderhence the repeated use of the word “alleged”. Unfortunately, even if the police tomorrow found Alyssa's body or incontrovertible evidence that Michael Turney killed Alyssa, he could not be retried under double jeopardy laws. However, the court of public opinion is an entirely different animal that doesn't care what a judge decides.

There are many statements that have been excluded from court because they are considered “hearsay” worth examining in court. American Crime documentary film. A documentary could explore his union-murdering plot described in his 97-page manifesto, “Diary of a Mad Martyr,” plus his illegal weapons — all of which could not be used in court because they were considered biased. Ultimately, I think there is more to the story than what was discussed in court, and one American Crime a documentary can help keep his memory alive now that the work is over.
