Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #3! together, Deadpool and Wolverine One of the greatest duos in Marvel Comics history, something that's about to be solidified in live-action with the upcoming MCU film, Deadpool and Wolverine. One of the best parts of their team-up is the humor, as Deadpool is constantly cracking jokes while Wolverine gets more and more frustrated as the mission progresses – which is funny in itself. However, there's also a more serious side to the duo than meets the eye, which is made clear by Deadpool's understanding of how he sees Wolverine.

In Deadpool and Wolverine: World War III #3 by Joe Kelly and Adam Kubert, Wolverine battles a massive beast known only as “Snowflake” after tearing off a limb from Deadpool (now known as Wade Wilson 3 aka World War III). Deadpool is now presumed dead and Wolverine is left alone in the desert with the people who killed him. Delta, the leader of this organization responsible for both Snowflake's creation and Deadpool's transformation into World War III, takes this opportunity to tell Wolverine exactly what Deadpool thinks of him – the information he gathered during the experiment. “Your friend died…Delta said, you know why Even in your great rage… Wade Wilson hoped to emulate your path as a man who conquered his lower nature.“.

Despite fearing literally no one throughout his Marvel Comics career, Deadpool finally names a villain he actually fears.

Deadpool wants to be like Wolverine for 1 reason: He sees himself as a werewolf

Close-up of Deadpool's masked face looking down, sad.

It's no secret that Deadpool has a huge crush on Wolverine, but until now it was always assumed that it was because of Deadpool's meta-awareness. Originally, Deadpool was envisioned as a kind of “evil twin” for Wolverine. Wolverine was the perfect example of Weapon X, while Deadpool was “all the rest of the crap” – Something expressed by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld himself. Therefore, Deadpool naturally reasoned that he wanted to partner with his better half. But now it's been confirmed that Deadpool's reasoning was always more heartwarming.

Deadpool sees himself as a monster, someone who succumbs to the heartless trials he goes through and becomes a worse person as a result. In contrast, Deadpool sees Wolverine as a man who goes through the same ordeal, but on the other hand, emerges as a hero rather than a monstrous killer. Wolverine was able to rise above what happened to him and become an X-Man and even an Avenger. Deadpool wanted the chance to prove that if given another chance, he could do the same thing — that he wasn't a monster like Wolverine.

Wolverine's murderous nature proves too much for Deadpool himself

Wolverine is furious, clawing and yelling.

While it's true that Wolverine overcame the traumas of his past to become a hero, it's also true that Wolverine isn't as “pure of heart” as Deadpool thinks he is. To this day, Wolverine is still “the best at what he does” because he is ready to kill his enemies at any moment. Indeed, that's how this whole storyline started in the first place, with Wolverine called to kill a superhuman serial killer in Canada. Even though the payoff is kindness rather than money, Wolverine is still an assassin just like Deadpool.

Delta himself even makes this point when he tells Wolverine what Deadpool thinks of him, saying that Wade is on the wrong track because Wolverine is just as murderous a “monster” as Deadpool. However, whether or not Wade is right to think so, WolverineThe fact that he's willing to kill his enemies doesn't change Deadpool's view of him, and that's as much as anything Deadpool wished it had – it's absolutely heartwarming.
