The year 2024 Crow was not the successful adaptation some had hoped for, and one of its most criticized elements is the ending, which Bill Skarsgård no longer liked. 2024 is a big year for Bill Skarsgård with various projects that will showcase his acting skills. At first it was an action comedy The Boy Kills the Worldand Skarsgård moved on (albeit now with a darker tone). Crow. Directed by Rupert Sanders, Crow It is a new adaptation of James O'Barr's comic book series 1994 film adaptation of a popular film of the same name.
Crow It follows Erik (Skarsgård), a young man with a troubled past who runs into Shelly (FKA Twigs) at a rehab facility. Eric and Shelly fall in love and run away, but a crime boss looking for Shelly eventually finds her and kills her and Eric. Eric is soon revived and given the ability to heal from all injuries, so he goes on a mission of revenge against his and Shelley's killers. Crow It is fast and furious, however it also changes Eric's mission, giving him a different ending It wasn't a favorite of many, including Skarsgård.
Bill Skarsgård has confirmed that he didn't like The Crow ending months before its release.
Bill Skarsgård Was Very Honest About The Crow
Sanders Crow caused much controversy upon its announcement, as it was long believed to be a remake of Alex Proyas' 1994 film starring Brandon Lee. The project has gone through many changes since 2008, with different directors and actors coming and going, and eventually moving forward with Sanders as director and Bill Skarsgård as Eric. When Skarsgård's first look at Eric was revealed, controversy arose again and the chatter around it Crow while not exactly the best, it's held up ever since.
Skarsgård said

he “personally preferred something more definite.”
First Crow's release, Skarsgård spoke about the project and gave his very honest perspective on the film's ending. Without spoiling anything, Skarsgård said Esquire that he “personally preferred something more definitive“, means that Crow left the door open for a sequelthis was not the case in the previous adaptation. Adaptations by both Proyas and Sanders Crow Focused on Erik's revenge mission, but the latter changed key parts of it. In this work, Eric dies again after a moment of doubt and returns to the afterlife.
Eric negotiates his way back to the land of the living and offers Shelly his life in exchange for her to return and continue her mission. After Eric kills demonic criminal Vincent Roeg (Danny Huston). Eric saves Shelly's soul and they are briefly reunited in the afterlife before Shelly is revived. on the night of his death, while Eric remains in the afterlife, he is certain that his and Shelley's souls will one day be reunited.
It is said that the crow has different endings
Naturally, Sanders responded to Skarsgård's comments about the ending Crowhe said he didn't think it was true at all and gave Eric a cliffhanger without the possibility of a sequel (via Diversity). In that interview Sanders shared that he and Skarsgård were looking at different endings and he probably cut about 20. Sanders continued to defend Crow's was the right ending, it was unexpected, it wasn't happy, and it leaves no room for a sequel (or, at least, that wasn't the intention).
Skarsgård has not commented Crow's ends again after the film's release, so it's unclear if the film underwent a last-minute change or if the ending in the last part is what he's talking about. Details of the other endings have not been released and it's unknown if they'll ever be released, but Sanders doesn't seem to have changed his planned ending. Crow After Skarsgård shared his frustration.
Why The Crow 2024's End Doesn't Work
Crow May Have Performed Better With A Different Ending
the end of Crow mostly it doesn't work because it doesn't make sense. When Shelly returns at the end Crowshe does this the night she dies with Eric and he is revived by paramedics. Eric's completed mission basically sent Shelly back in timebut Roeg and company are still understood to be dead, leaving a lot of questions about how this whole resurrection thing works in this particular version. Crow.
Even if Sanders doesn't think so, it leaves the door open (if only slightly) for a sequel once Shelly comes back to life.
Of course, this mixed ending has inevitably drawn comparisons with Proyas's version, which, to put it more poetically, is more tragic. Eric disagreed with the afterlife and he just came back to avenge his and Shelly's deaths and when it was over Shelly's spirit came back for him and they were reunited in the afterlife. Even if Sanders doesn't intend it that way, Shelly comes back to life and leaves the door open (if only slightly) for a sequel. Crow franchise proves that this is a bad idea.
