Star James McAvoy discusses why Wanted 2 not revived yet. Based on the comic book miniseries by Mark Millar and JG Jones, the original film also stars Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. McAvoy portrayed the main character who joins the ranks of secret assassins. After the film became a critical and commercial success, there were hopes for a sequel, but the film suffered continuous failures with its scripts for 16 years.
talking to The Hollywood ReporterHe touched on the problems with McAvoy Wanted 2's development, audiences' love for the original film, and whether they'll still consider returning. He attributed the delays to scenariosexplaining that many had come his way, but none felt confident enough to take the next step. There were a few scripts that came my way for sequels, but they weren't strong enough, so they never happened. If there was a script that was completely flabbergasted, yes, I would be disappointed. But we did something that I'm really proud of. Timur [Bekmambetov] he was really proud of it. The studio was really proud of it. Everyone was really excited and it stood the test of time a bit. It's always on streamers and people are always watching it. I still get a lot of love from young people who were not alive then. So I'm proud of what we've done and I wouldn't want to tarnish it by doing something that's not that strong. Look, I'm too old to play Wesley. This is now the role of the young man.
What could Wanted 2 be about?

Although a strong script for this has yet to come to fruition, a story Wanted 2 already discussed. Millar himself suggested that a sequel could expand on the franchise and introduce the remaining assassin brothers. There are five in the comic. with the success of action thrillers like John Wick there's plenty of room for franchises, gun-toting assassins, and extensive world-building.
And there might even be room for McAvoy to return as Wesley. He gave a solid performance in the 2008 film So her absence from the sequel may disappoint some fans. It's been a long time since then Anyit would be strange to see him as the main character in such a film, but he could perhaps play a mentor-like character, perhaps the new, uncorrupted leader of a new brotherhood.
