Jane's Addiction Member Apologizes for End of Tour Brawl

Rock band Jane's Addiction are dealing with the fallout from an onstage brawl between lead vocalist Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro. The brawl led to the cancellation of their U.S. tour, and now Farrell is confronting the situation head-on.

“This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, my fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday's show,” Farrell said in a statement. Rolling stone“Unfortunately, my breaking point led to inexcusable behavior and I take full responsibility for how I chose to handle the situation.”

Tensions between Farrell and Navarro came to a head during their performance at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston on September 13. Farrell's wife, Etty Lau Farrell, stated on social media that “there was a lot of tension and hostility between the members.”

“Perry's frustration grew each night; he felt the stage volume was too loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band. Perry suffered from tinnitus and a sore throat every night. But when the audience in the front row started complaining to Perry, swearing at him that the band was planning too loud and they couldn't hear him, Perry went crazy,” he said.

Farrell punched Navarro, prompting bassist Eric Avery and two show crew members to try to pull him off the stage.

Following the incident, Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins took to Instagram to issue a joint statement about the situation.

“Due to our singer Perry Farrell's ongoing behavioral pattern and mental health issues, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to terminate his current U.S. tour. Our concerns for his personal health and safety, as well as our own, have left us with no other alternative. We hope he gets the help he needs,” the statement said.

“We are deeply saddened that we cannot be there for all our fans who have purchased tickets. We see no reliable solution that will provide a safe environment on stage or allow us to deliver a great performance every night,” the trio concluded. “Our hearts are broken.”
