Johnnie Walker Releases New, Limited Edition Blue Label

Après-ski deserves its own whiskey, and Johnnie Walker may have just made it: Blue Label Ice Chalet. After all, what could be more delicious than a warming glass of golden liqueur after a long, cold day?

Created in collaboration with luxury skiwear brand Perfect Moment and shareholder Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet is the second release from the Diageo-owned brand's Cobalt line, following Elusive Umami, created last year with chef Kei Kobayashi. The whiskey is inspired by the “Blue Hour,” the time period when the sun shifts significantly below the horizon and the sky takes on an almost indigo beauty that makes everything a touch more magical and skiing becomes socializing.

Master blender Emma Walker blended Scotch whiskey from Diageo's northernmost and highest altitude distilleries, including old stocks of Dalwhinnie, Clynelish and Brora, to create the whisky. It was aged predominantly in refilled American oak, refurbished heavily charred barrels, and ex-American oak bourbon barrels, as well as some wine and sherry barrels.

On the nose, you hear aromas of spicy apples and plums, as well as sweet and creamy vanilla combined with light wood spice. On the palate, apples, fruits and spices combine with soft woody, slightly smoky and rich orchard fruits. The finish is soft and fruity with slightly smoky notes.

Alongside the whiskey, Johnnie Walker and Perfect Moment will also launch the Ice Chalet capsule skiwear collection. The brand's signature square bottle comes with a dark blue reversible bottle bag that doubles as a crossbody bag.

“The perfect après-ski moment represents the combination of great fashion and good friends, ideally accompanied by an incredible drink,” says Priyanka Chopra Jonas. “The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet perfectly captures this essence with a nod to the freshness of the mountains and a crossbody bag that looks as good by the fireplace as it does on the snowy slopes.”

Bottled at 43 percent ABV, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet comes with a suggested retail price of $420.
