Kevin Costner breaks silence after passion project financial disaster Horizon: An American Epic – Part 1The film, which debuted in June with an $11 million opening weekend, grossed $29 million domestically and a pitiful $3.6 million internationally, against a budget of over $100 million, with Costner putting up $38 million of his own money.
“I've come across situations in my life where people belittle me,” the 69-year-old actor said. E! News weekend. “But they can't underestimate it HorizonBecause it's not in their hands anymore.”
But despite the less-than-encouraging reception, Costner has no regrets Horizon. Durham Bull Star said critics “might point to the finish line” and added, “It did this kind of performance at the box office, but I know this movie will be around for the next 50 years.”
Costner explained that his efforts to make the 1988 film were about much more than financial gain. “There comes a point when [your children] “To see this movie,” he said, “to understand that this is their purpose [ancestors] “It's not just a Western, it's a history of immigration and what they had to do to survive. And I'm really proud of that.”
Horizon: Part 2The film, the second in a proposed four-film series, was expected to be released on August 16. After disappointing attendance Part 1distributors received Part 2 has been removed from the release schedule. A new release date has not yet been announced, but the film will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 7.
Costner doesn't regret the move, as it will give viewers at home more time to discover the first film. Horizon: Part 1 The film went to number one on the charts when it was released on VOD. (It is available for purchase, but not yet for rental.)
Costner has made a career out of such risky gambles. Dances with WolvesMany people thought this would be evidence Horizon-level flop, the film became a huge financial success and won seven Oscars for Costner, including Best Picture and Best Director. The actor has said that critics are quick to call his most iconic projects flops, and some Field of Dreams “It would quickly disappear.”
