Global service provider Keywords made a play to acquire the famous support studio Certain affinity for an unknown sum.
Under the agreement, certain affinity “will bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise… to our Create division,” Keywords CEO Bertrand Bodson said. Founder and CEO Max Hoberman and President Paul Sams will continue to lead the developer.
“We look forward to partnering with Max, Paul and their team over the coming years to continue to drive growth and the overall business,” concluded Bodson.
Hoberman's own statement noted that this acquisition provides help to Certa Affinity during “this very difficult time for the market.” Earlier this year, the study cut 25 roles in the first layoffs ever in its 18-year history.
Those layoffs followed the quiet cancellation of his plan alleged Halo battle royale already in January. Known then as “Project Tanaka,” Certain Affinity had previously billed it as a new way to play Halo, and it was in the works as he co-developed Infinite halo.
“Paul and I look forward to collaborating [Keywords] chart a path for thoughtful expansion of our core co-development activities and refinement of our core development capabilities,” Hoberman said. “We are excited to provide stability and a supportive home for our team.”
In the more immediate future, Certain Affinity's next project will help with Archetype Entertainment's debut sci-fi role-playing game Exodus.
This marks Keywords' most recent acquisition following the purchase of another contract developer Wushu studies again in August.
