Kinfire Council is an asymmetrical political combat filled with cultists, political schemes, and hidden knives.

Leading a city is a difficult task, and that job apparently becomes even more dangerous when you must contend with the machinations of your fellow rulers along with dark cults and threats from outside the walls. This is your fate in Kinfire Council, a new asymmetrical board game from Incredible Dream, the same studio behind Kinfire Chronicles and Kinfire Delve.

Kinfire Council was designed by Kevin Wilson, a veteran board game creator responsible for Arkham Horror and Descent: Journeys in the Dark. His latest project is a mid-weight experience with intricate board design and plenty of interaction between two to six players competing to carry out their own plans for the bustling fantasy metropolis of Din'Lux.

Each player will control one of the city council members, and will be tasked with protecting the overpopulated and tense city, all the while furthering their own personal plans for domination, personal enrichment, or even altruistic rule (you just don’t trust these other cowards and cheats to get the job done). Meanwhile, outside threats like the Starless Nights threaten the inhabitants, and growing political unrest has allowed the Cabalistic Cult of Altan to form in the cracks of your oversight.

No two councilors have the same set of skills and workers that they will use to rebuild Kinfire's beacons, information, and influence with the other powers that be. Over the course of roughly two-hour sessions, players will change the rules of the game with decrees voted on by both players and NPC constituencies across Din'Lux. There is a clear advantage to spreading wealth and power among the metropolis' known entities on both sides of the law.

“'Kinfire Council' introduces a unique twist to the worker placement mechanic with the Altan Cultists. These enemy workers threaten the city of Din'Lux, creating a unique challenge for players,” Wilson said in a press release. “It's even possible for the Cultists to win, revealing the last-place player as their secret ally and the ultimate winner!”

In addition to Wilson, the Incredible Dream team includes a surprising array of talent that is reflected in the artistic aesthetic and design of the Kinfire tabletop game series. Co-founder Jane Chung Hoffacker joins from League of Legends developer Riot, while art director Katarzyna “Ulvar” Bekus’ previous credits include Cyberpunk 2077 and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.

There’s a demo version available to play on Tabletopia if you want to try out the base game before backing Kinfire Council’s Kickstarter campaign, which runs until May 27. Incredible Dream has already surpassed its initial goal of funding a physical core box set that is expected to ship to backers in June 2025.
