In the five years since then game of Thrones has been cancelled, Kit Harington has managed to move on professionally from the hugely popular fantasy series that catapulted him to fame. The 37-year-old actor stars in the third season of HBO's Industryand is currently starring in the Tony Award-nominated West End production Slave Game.
However, in June 2022, George RR Martin announced that a Jon Snow spin-off series Profit It was in early development with Harington involved, although he seemed like the actor most ready to leave his character behind. It never materialized, with Harington explaining earlier this year that the team “couldn't find the right story to tell.” And a new GQ Hype He provided details about that decision in an interview published on Monday.
“I don't really want to say because it starts the whole thing,” Harington said when asked what the proposed story would be. “What I can tell you is that HBO came to me and said, 'Would you consider this?' My first reaction was no. Then I thought it might be an interesting and important story about the soldier after the war. I thought there might be something left to tell and a story to tell in a very limited way.”
He explained that they spent “a couple of years developing the story back and forth,” but nothing excited them enough to continue with the project. “Eventually, I kind of stepped back and said, 'I think if we take this further and keep developing it, we might end up with something that's not good. And that's the last thing any of us want,'” he admitted.
When asked if he felt any trepidation about saying goodbye to Jon Snow, similar to trying to reach out to his ex, Harington admitted that there was “a lot of baggage that comes with that,” and that might be part of the problem.
“In some ways, you have to completely detach from this previous thing, and here we are a few years later,” he continued. “The role will always be a very important factor in my life. It may be the biggest, most important thing I've ever done. I met my wife on this movie. I had kids. I had friends for life. I'm recognized on the street because of this movie.”
“[But] At the same time, I was trying to do what I was trying to do, which was to separate myself from him, which was counterproductive. [the show]Harington added, “Still being with him, [would be] “It's very hard to ask people to see you as anything else. And in order to do my job, it's kind of important that people come and see me and not Jon Snow.”
Although some fans were disappointed to see the last of Jon Snow, on the positive side, game of Thrones The universe is still going strong. Prequel Dragon House was recently renewed for a third season and a second spin-off series, Knight of the Seven KingdomsIt will air on HBO in 2025.
